At Last a TomCat 24

Greetings!

After three years of watching and waiting for the right boat at the right price, we finally own a TomCat 24.
We purchased Goose from Ed Devlin on Long Island. Interestingly, Goose was the first TomCat we ever saw up close, about three years ago.
We're based on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. Over the coming years, we hope to cruise as much as as we can, starting with Thousand Islands, Rideau Canal and the Trent-Severn.
I've lurked here for several years and am real glad to finally become an active participant.

Congratulations, Georgs, and welcome aboard!

Three years is a long time to wait - hope your new boat gives you many years of spectacular cruising. "At Last" is a great name.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Congrats, what a feeling. Please keep us posted, pics.

What will you use to tow it??

We've been considering a 24 rather than a 22 Angler down the road. Enjoy

Georgs,

Special greetings and welcome from fellow 24 Tomcat owners. We know that, like us, you-all will find it well worth the wait. Have fun bonding with "At Last"!

Georgs is a very accomplished sailor, who I have had the pleasure of knowing for about 9 years. I don't know all of his accomplishments, but he has had a very significant impact on boating thru his life both as a sailor and publisher.

I first heard of Georg in 1989 when he Steve Pettengill, set the record for sailing from New York to San Franscisco on the 60-foot trimaran, Great American. They did this voyage around Cape Horn in just under 77 days, beating the previous record set by the clipper ship Flying Cloud by 12 days!

Although Georgs is from Latvia, and now lives in Canada, he has spent significant time in Newport Bay, CA.

I next hooked up with Georgs when I joined the Trawler list in 1998, and met him in person shortly there after when he asked me join him on a pannel on crossing the Atlantic and give several lectures at Trawler Fest, which he owned at that time. He has started a number of boating and other magazines, including Power Cruising--and at least 14 other magazines, as well as the Trawler list--now called "Trawlers and Trawlering, Power Cat, Passagemaking under power and The Great Loop lists.

I understand that Georgs latest endeavor is "Glory Road" a motorcycle life style magazine. Georgs has also been involved with the publicity for Nordhavn and published at least one magazine which is dedicated to the Nordhavn yachts.

It has been a real pleasure to be Georgs friend--and he will be a wonderful addition to this list--and the world of "C Dories". I like to think that a ride on "Thataway" had a little to do with his purchase of a Tom Cat--and validates that we on the list are the real salesmen of the C Dory line!

Officially "Welcome aboard" to Georgs and his lovely wife Norlene. Now--a new magazine dedicated to trailerable trawlers?

We had the pleasure of meeting Georgs at a West Marine Trawlerfest in Poulsbo. After we bailed out of the Trawler scene, I thought that was our last connection with Georgs. It was wonderfully surprising to read his post!

Welcome Georgs to the C-Brats and TomCat owners! I hope you will share your wealth of knowledge with us here as you have in other venues.

Hi Georgs,

Welcome and congratulations. You probably don't remember, but I showed you my CD22 in Connecticut about 3 or 4 years ago when you were still undecided about what boat was to be your next. I knew at that time that you were really a catamaran guy, and a Tomcat was in your future. I think you left my driveway, and headed for a visit with Goose in LI next. Great choice!

I hope you can join us for some cruising with the rest of the Northeast C-Brats from time to time. Next year Maine! After that, who knows, but we would like to head back to Canada soon for the Trent Severn and the North Channel. Stay tuned.

Again....Congrats!

Thank you, one and all, for your welcoming words, and thank you, Bob Austin, for the introduction.

The TomCat is my first outboard-powered boat so I'm sure to have a string of questions as we spend time aboard At Last.

Being located where we are, we figure we won't need to worry about a truck until we're done with cruising Lake Ontario, Georgian Bay, the North Channel, Lake Superior, the Trent-Severn and Rideau, Thousand Islands, the St. Lawrence . . .

Norlene and I remember the visit with you very well, and are still thankful for the opportunity to see a CD22. And you're right, we were off to Long Island next to see Goose, the boat we eventually purchased. Ed Devlin, her owner, was kind enough to let us take a close look, even though he couldn't be present. Norlene and I sat and talked and took photos aboard Goose for much of one afternoon. By the time we returned home, we were certain the original TomCat was the boat for us.

Georgs....At Last!!! I have enjoyed some of our chatter about the TC24 and I truly loved mine, FreeByrd!!. You should enjoy many a fine year on her. In your cold waters, be sure to put bilge pumps in each of the forward sponsons, and keep good sealant on the thru transom cockpit drains. An over-sight on my part during her annual maintenance as I missed putting new sealant on the 3" tubes and shook her loose a bit after a road trip to Hilton Head and took on a bit of water. But, for sure, She is a great boat. I ended up with Ol Dusty's hull from E.Q., and she is now with a the owners in FL...hauling grandchildren around the shallows and wonderful watery playgrounds.... A great boat for a bunch of kids and all their water stuff!! I can remember hearing the kids on Lake Martin in Alabama saying they wanted to go play on Byrdman's boat cause we can get it all wet and spray each other down and track mud on it and just wash it out...... No...they could not do that on their parents boats...they needed to sit still a bit, clean off real good before coming on board, and be real careful what they got all wet. A great boat the TC24 is.

Hopefully I will get to meet you some day and have enjoyed our emails/chat in the past!

Welcome aboard George. I am sure it will be a pleasure to have you as a member of this group. For Bob (thataway) to speak so highly of you, you have to be quite a seaman. I hope I have the honor of crossing wakes with you someday.

Thanks for the welcome, Pat!

When I was just starting to research the TomCat, I do recall how helpful you were with emails full of information and enthusiasm. If I recall correctly, only a hurricane kept me from visiting you in Alabama.

I see you've now moved on to Rosborough. Great boats! I first met Bob Rosborough in 1996 when I started West Marine Trawler Fest. Great guy!
