An odd thing happened while towing the new boat home ...

Well, I sure enjoyed that story. A good (mostly true?) yarn with a healthy dose of self-deprecation can't be beat.

If you'll promise not to smirk at my 47 attempts at the ramp, I'll keep laughing at your stories.

Welcome.

In order to put this to bed, I think Tyboo needs to verify that the posts from Tom P and JamesTXSD are indeed coming from different IP addresses.

I enjoyed the story. I also noticed some remarkable similarity in the writings of Tom P and Jim (mostly in the length  ). But rather than assuming that Jim was masquerading as Tom, I just assumed that Jim's special talent (e.g. the "gift" of gab) was communicable and that Tom was never vaccinated.

Regardless, welcome Tom.

Sorry. Jim's posting mobile and has 194 pages of IP addresses. Without violating the federal WhoIs regulations there is no way to tell if Tom is Jim. I suggest we simply call them both Tim.

Wow tparrent, that was quite a read! You write in the writing style I most enjoy, eg Tom Robbins, Jimmy Buffett et al. I can't remember if you posted your profession but professional writer wouldn't be a surprise. Very funny stuff. I haven't laughed from a post on this site in awhile.

As for you Starcraft Tom, I don't buy it. Leave poor Jim alone. Always tryng to stir things up..... sheesh :wink

Look, Tom P and Jim B are in fact the same person. Neither, however, is each other. As I have tried to explain above, they are both Tom E. All superheroes have two personalities and, therefore, two first names, i.e. Clarke Kent, Bruce Wayne (and of course, his brother John), Ron Paul, Marcus Aurelius,Mark Anthony, Roy Rogers, Patrick Henry, and Tom Elliott come to mind. The next time you see him, just ask him to remove his beard. You'll see.

I could not be either one of the tims. I would not be caught dead bagging a rag or wearing that hawaiian shirt. Besides I melt in the sun! 8)

See what you started. I may talk to myself frequently, but one odd personality is as much as I can handle.

I got Wild Blue out of storage today... temp was in the mid to upper 70s while I cleaned her up. I didn't need no stinkin' aloha shirt... shorts and sandals were just fine. I DON'T melt in the sun. See, I am neither Tom nor Tom. 8)

Well no wonder my ears have been ringing! Finally saw that little thing at the lower right corner that shows multiple pages for this thread. That should give you some idea of my general ineptitude. Yes, it is not restricted to mechanical issues.

To clear up this whole identity crisis, let me clue you in to the only two dreams I have in life:

1. Waste more time writing

2. Accumulate a toy collection to rival Jim's

Unfortunately, the only way to achieve (2) is to continue my career - not to make money to buy such toys but to have the power to repossess Jim's stuff! Every time I get close though all I find is a cloud of dust or a receding wake. One slippery fella there.

My relentless pursuit of toys has caused me to waste precious little time writing. I hope that getting the little dory instead of that belching monster CD25 will have me spending less time shopping for Mack trucks to pull the boat and more time actually on one - and any time on the water inevitably leads to stories.

As for my mechanical challenges, I am improving measurably. When the dealer handed me the tool kit supplied by Honda I did, in fact, dump the tools out and replace them with the service shop business card. The outboard repair memories are simply too painful to dredge up.

As for trailering, well, there's always something new to learn there too. Awhile back I had a small trailer that had seen better days but I wasn't sure what to do about it. I jacked it up and spun the wheels but couldn't tell if there were bearing issues or not. Heck, how would I know? So I called a sailing friend who happens to know just about everything about working on everything and asked if he could check my bearings. He said sure except he was in Texas and I was in Illinois. No problem, I replied, just listen. I then held the phone up to the axle and spun the wheel. When I asked what he thought, he said I had a screw loose. Never did find a screw anywhere on that axle so I guess it must have fallen right off - proving him right.

Someone has to go kickstart the economy, so I'll get back to work and put on my executive steel toed boots and git 'er done.

Hey TP,

Congrats on the new CD 16. I have often coveted those handy little boats, like Pat and others who have both sizes.

Many years ago I was 'trained' in the arts of seamanship and fishing by a retired Merchant Mariner, Woodie, who was full of wise sayings that I am still figuring out after all this time.

One such phrase was, "The larger the boat, the closer to the marina it stays..." How true that is! My TomCat 255 is the smallest boat on my dock section and I can see how those 40-80 foot craft rarely go anywhere, other than the 2 or 3 annual holiday cruises.

Also, with the TomCat, I tend to accumulate useless ballast in the form of gizmos, etc., that I'd probably not have room for in the 16.

Someday, I will get a smaller boat to make those quick runs...

Well, John, it's a start, but you're not there yet. While much of your analysis is exactly right, your conclusion, "to make those quick runs" is a little short sighted. I wish I could count the number of times Dotty and I slept late, had a light lunch at home, noted the beautiful weather, and trailered the Lizzie down to the ramp. An hour after our last cup of coffee we would be toodling along at about 5 knots, checking on the progress of the rich guys new docks, or enjoying the snow covered mountains, or looking for soaring eagles. Later a pit stop at a park or a restaurant's free moorage. Take out fish and chips in the middle of the lake, quietly studying the rush hour traffic on the bridges and interstates while we gently rock back and forth, then chasing the sunset back to the ramp before I have to screw in the running light. Then home, in time to tsk tsk the day's news on TV. On second thought, you are right. It is indeed "a quick run". I apologize.

We love our little 16, Captain's Kitten, only had it out a few times last summer before we went to Maine, it's living in the tractor barn for the winter. After I play with it some more in the spring (if it ever warms up), I plan to put it on the market again to give some other folks a chance to experience a "little" C-Dory. The sailboats and the TC will be more than enough to satisfy us!

Congratulations on the new boat TP, it's always a thrill!

Hi Tom.
Maybe we need to have a C-Brat gathering in Nashville on 23rd or 24th of Feb...take in Catch 22's gig ..... get Jim and a couple more to fly in.... and have a large time.? This way we could get a pic of you and Jim standing side by side. Just a thought.

We could try that but I am concerned that if we stood together then one of us would not show up on the film and that would start a whole new set of rumors!

So, now I'm a vampire? Or, maybe you meant YOU? After all, you are the banker.

Wow... maybe we could get Pat to fly down too from the NW corner if he can leave the falls area, we could get the other Pat to come down from Ohio...if Linda will let him out of the house, .... surely we have an IRS guy on here too.... and I could have my picture made with a lawyer guy, banker guy, IRS guy, and an insurance guy.... :photo

MY LIFE DREAM!!!!!

WOW...now does this group bring people together or what??
