A TC24 for Christmas

We're new to C-brats and have had our classic '84 CD22 for only a short time. And, we love it. It's a great boat. But, I recently was offered the opportunity to semi-retire, and I'll only be working six months a year. That means more time to boat and with our ability to tap into a bit of retirement funds...well, a bigger boat was in order. We originally thought that a CD25 or a TC255 would be the way to go -- of course staying within the C-dory family. After looking at the TC255s available, it became clear that these boats were beyond our retirement funds, and a used CD25 would be a stretch. We kept looking and one day on boattrader we saw an ad from Wefing's Marine for a TC24 with a recently reduced price well within our range. We called Marc at Wefings and after a couple of conversations, we agreed that the Tomcat was the boat for us. Next, we called Cory of Sharp Yacht Transport and found that he was scheduled to deliver a Ranger Tug to Wefing's and he gave us a good deal on shipping our CD22 to Marc, who will sell it, and returning with the Tomcat. It all came together nicely Cory has picked up our CD22 and should be back with our new (to us) Tomcat. First, he has to deliver a boat to New Jersey and return -- the man is a driving demon. The result is that we should have the Tomcat just in time for Christmas! Better than one of those commercials where a Lexus is wrapped in a ribbon. I prefer a C-dory.

The boat has all that we need. We understand that some folks take issue with the head, but we are short people and still reasonably nimble. Others worry about the solar effect with the slanted windows, but we live in Bellingham (remember last July 4th?). And, we are in the group of folks who like the looks of the TC24. The boat is also outfitted nicely with twin Yamaha 115s, radar, wallas, and so on. We will be keeping the boat at Squalicum Harbor (close to R-Matey) so the the trailer issue will not be too much of a concern.

Before buying the boat, we searched the C-brats site for information on the TC24. We also had great reports about Marc at Wefing's and Cory. We are very comfortable with our purchase because of C-brats. We would not have made the purchase from so far away without all the comments on this site. Best of all, we are happy to be part of the C-brat family.

Happy Holidays!

Well,
That sure is a nice Christmas gift. A little tinsel and a big bow and it will look nice in the slip.
Looking forward to the photos...

I love it when a plan comes together! :D Is this a great place, or what?

Congrats on the new boat and the semi-retirement... a great Christmas present! Keep us posted on the new arrival.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I really like the looks of that boat and could live with the smal head in exchange for all the fishing room, speed and softer ride. the wife on the other hand wont travel in a tennis shoe shaped boat. go figure.

Congratulations on your new to you purchase. I hope it works out well for you and family.
I used Cory last year to tow my new to me 26' ProAngler CD from West Palm Beach, Fla. to Wenatchee, Wash. He is great to work with and does what he says he will do. I then towed it to Alaska from Wash. All went well for us.
You are correct..........he is a driving maniac., that man puts on a lot of miles.

Hi Jay and Penny,

Congratulations! We're looking forward to seeing your new boat when it arrives and having you as our neighbor on LE dock.

swine, I was oogling that fine vessel and thinking "if only the durn kid was done with school", now I have to find me some other boat porn to oogle :)
Good deal, I think that boat would be a dandy around these parts

You have made a number of good choices! You will enjoy the C Dory Tom Cat 24. It will work very well in your area, and be more economical to run than the 255. Congratulations!

Thanks folks. It's nice to know that C-brats are out there with support. We'll be sure to post pictures when the Tomcat arrives. We look forward to meeting everyone at future CBGTs. Thanks!

Jay and Penny,

You have hit on one of the best parts of the C-Dory group, the C-Brat family. There is a comfort to know you are dealing with folk who put their reputation our there on the line for everyone to see. You won't be disappointed. And right now, that green house effect would be welcome around here.

Yes, the C-brat family is great. I belong to another website for fishing and the conversation there is not nearly as supportive as on C-brats. In addition, I cannot say how much I've learned just reading posts here. Sometimes the level of expertise and willingness to share is mind boggling. Thanks all!

Good going, guys! Well done all around! Marc and Corey are top notch people! Look forward to hooking up out on the water, we are a couple of years away from retirement, but boat out of Blaine and Bellingham (from our base in Birch Bay, that will become our permanent home base on retirement), and so our paths are bound to cross soon!

Well, after some delays for various reasons our Tomcat is on the way from Florida! Cory says he should be here by Christmas Eve. Wow, talk about timing. I haven't had this much anticipation for Christmas in a very long time.

In the meantime, our 1984 CD22 will be for sale at Wefing's. I'll post some more information once Marc gets it listed on his website. It should be a good buy for an east coast C-brat or C-brat wannabe.

By the way, I have thought of an advantage of the sloped windows on the TC24. It is much less likely that a bird strike during transport, like that which happened to Rogerbum's TC255, will break a window, resulting in a dead bird in the cabin.

Congrats Jay ! We loaded her on top of a Float On Tri axle trailer with the wheels off the Tomcat trailer so no wear and tear on the trailer ! Your 22 looks great and I cant see it being here long! Merry Christmas !!!!
Marc
