2012 Delta/Bay Extravaganza and Catalina Offshore Adventure

Home safe and sound--- had a blast. This was the best yet--- met old friends and made new friends.
The weather was great-- a little bumpy this morning, but nothing that the C-Dorys could not handle.
Thanks Jim and Kath for setting up another great cruise.
Thanks John and Robin for another great treat at the Club.

I think this might have been the best Delta Cruise ever, no problems.and good sea's...great food and weather not to be beat...loved it...
We had a really good breakfast (Thanks Jim) and got on the road...were hone to the cabin by 2:30pm...great traveling...

Some day I would like to go back to Alameda to Everert and Jones the Barbeque place we went to several years ago...what great food...with the exception of the "hot" ribs that Steve....Suwanee could not heat...way to hot for even him....yeow ! Someday we ought to do a South Bay Cruise...and go as far as Redwood City and that end of the Bay...never been there....

We had a super time...all thanks to Jim's advance planning and hard work...and as always the Duck Club for such a fine meal...nice new dock too....

Thanks Again

Marie and I were talking about the trip today--ideal would be to double the time at each stop and then 4 days at South Park in San Francisco!

Laurie and I had such a great time! :D Thank you to all who had a hand in making the Delta and Bay Extravaganza such a success. A special thanks to Jim and Cathy who must have worked like dogs to make it all come together in such a seemingly effortless event. It was nice to have met you all and finally able to put some faces with some names I’ve seen so many times on C-Brats. We will post some photos just as soon as able. To those of you who wonder if it might be worth it to head out here to check this event out, well just a taste of John and Robin’s truly organic, range fowl and game specialties are reason enough – Laurie is now thinking that duck hunting may not be that bad of an idea if I can cook like they do on Wheeler Island! All of the destinations were a treat. We met so many great friendly folks I cannot begin to say how nice it was to be welcomed into the C Brat family and got to go cruising in the bargain. The weather was just about perfect with just enough wind and current at the end to make it feel like a bit of an adventure… glad we left early! John and Laurie

BTW: I want to know just who was responsible for the fireworks at ATT Park, dramatic touch, but entirely over the top and not entirely nessesary :o . We arrived home, got the boat cleaned up, put to it to bed and then managed a two hour nap afterwards! The sign of a good vacation is being pleasantly exhausted… darn fireworks. :P

Dear All.

Thanks to all the 11 vessels, and 22 folks, who participated in this year’s 10th Anniversary Extravaganza. Yes, we agree, it was one of the best ever Delta and Bay cruises, both weather and people wise!

A special thanks to Dr. Bob and Marie (Thisaway), Dr. Eric and Heather (Chack Chack), and Jon (Gypsy River). These folks all came a long way from out-of-state, Florida, Oregon, and New Mexico, respectively. We appreciate the efforts that you all made to attend.

It was also great having long-time veterans along. These folks included Steve (Dora Jean), Kent and Marcia (Marcia Jane), David and Donald (Blue Eagle), Joel and Susan (SEA3PO), and Roger and PJ (C-Hawk). We acknowledge your long-term devotion to this event.

John and Laurie (Sea Queen) were the local newbies who we were glad they came along, and who fit in great with the group. Thank you for your fabulous homemade beer and dock snacks.

As always, we acknowledge John and Robbin (Dinner Belle II) for their “over the top” hosting at their historic Wheeler Island Duck Club. Kath and I said to ourselves that this was an especially compatible and competent bunch of C-Dory folks, and that we were proud to be associated with them all.

We would not keep doing this trip for so long unless we were still having fun. Even though this is a beautiful cruising venue, it is truly the people that make this journey worthwhile.

Hopefully there will be a place for some forthcoming event pictures. We have some pictures that we will post when we can get them downloaded.

We are now going ahead and trying to arrange reservations again for next year, one year in advance, for San Francisco!

Sincerely,

Jim and Kath

I agree with most others' comments, this was the best ever Delta Extravaganza (my 9th?). Not sure why I say that, all have been outstanding, just this one seemed to move along so effortlessly. Special thanks to Jim and Kath, your planning and execution were flawless as usual, and the weather cooperated as well.

More thanks of course to John and Robin for the highlight of these trips, the club, the food, the fishing, and good conversation. And so nice to see some new faces (Dr. Eric and Heather -- Chack Chack, Jon -- Gypsy River, John and Laurie -- Sea Queen). And glad Bob and Marie made the trek, first time meeting Marie, a great lady for sure.

I will post some pictures when I can, still playing catch-up at work from being gone a week. And Jim, count me in for next year!

Steve

Well, we're finally home. Just fixed the water line that had exploded while we were gone. I understand my front yard looked like a Laurel and Hardy comedy while various neighbors tried to stop the flow.

Marcia and I heartily agree with all of the previous posts regarding the quality of this years trip. Once again Jim and Kath made seamless arrangements and the weather cooperated. John and Robbin hosted a priceless experience at the Wheeler Island Duck Club with great food and a peek at a bit of old California most people would never see. New participants added spice to the gathering and boating skills exhibited by all the skippers helped to make this the best Delta/Bay Extravaganza we've experienced. (our 4th.)

Meeting Dr. Bob and Marie was a special treat! AND Marcia says Marie is her new standard of what a first mate or Admiral if you prefer, should be in assisting the skipper. One comment made after a particularly heroic docking was: My gosh, I think she's Wonder Woman! I suspect Bob knows that!

Thanks again for Jim and Kath for hosting our Striper breakfast and we're both looking forward to the Two Harbors Cruise.

Pictures to follow as soon as an album is created.

Glad it went so well and everyone returned home safe. I look forward to seeing those of you who will do the Catalina Adventure in August.

Kimiko bumped her head (not on the boat) and needed head surgery a couple weeks ago to drain pooled blood under her skull. She is recovering and will be back to her full stamina and life routine after a few more weeks. If you develop a headache that won't go away after bumping your head, even weeks after the accident as Kimiko experienced (she even forgot about the bump), go to a doctor, tell him about your head injury however minor you thought it was, however recovered you think you are from it, and get a brain CAT-scan. It may save your life. A slow blood vessel leak in Kimiko's head pooled blood under the skull that compressed her brain, visible on a CAT-scan. It eventually would have caused brain damage, a stroke or death. Kimiko (and I) were very lucky to have an incredibly astute and fast acting primary care physician and two top notch neurosurgeons at Kaiser Permanente's hospitals in Los Angeles. She was in ER within minutes of the 1st CAT-scan and in surgery the next day.

So, even if I had a larger C-Dory, I would not have been able to attend. I'm pretty busy now driving Ms Kimiko to doctor appointments, doing house work, laundry, shopping, cooking, gardening, dog walking and trying to remain a wage earner. I feel so lucky to have Kimiko on the road to recovery! No complaints! I forgive her that she doesn't like boating on the ocean with me! I'll be glad however, when she is well enough I can leave her in the care of our two dogs and take C-Pup16 out for some over-night coastal fishing! The Marina del Rey Angler's Club annual fishing tournament is the weekend of June 9th-10th, and I'm signed up! Quality Guy Time!

So you road warriors from afar... come join the Catalina Adventure! We have to lift our glasses of Brat Juice to toast the joys of living our dreams!

Hi Keith,

Best wishes for Kimiko's quick recovery! Life and good health sure are precious. Situations such as this unfortunately remind us too often.

I was thinking of your posts re: the possibility of your 16 footer participating in the Delta Extravaganza. You can be very glad you didn't try that water. The S.F. Bay itself gets very rough, but San Pablo Bay and the Sacramento River with a following sea, wind, tide and river current create holes that are just about the size of your boat.

We look forward to meeting you again at Two Harbors.

Thank's Kent. I've had the pleasure of being crew on Steve's boat Dora Jean on two past cruises and was glad to be in a 25 ft CD, which took some very rough conditions well, while Mike B's nearby 22 ft boat had his electronics ripped out of ceiling from the slamming. I do know what you mean! What I would have done however is what I do fishing... leave before dawn when the wind is still asleep and the water is calm. But then, I would not be part of the group so it was best to leave it for the bigger boats.

Finally,

I'll post the link to all the pictures I've taken of the 2012 Delta Extravaganza. I find it so much easier to use Picasa and I know that system pretty well.

All the Delta attendees of recent years might also be interested in the progress of the Battleship Iowa. I will post a link to that site as well. The Ship is just passing Point Conception and is 50 or 60 miles offshore.

Link to the Iowa progress site along with a picture of a C-Dory with the Iowa in the background - http://www.pacificbattleship.com/page/track

Enjoy!

Mighty fine pictures Kent, a real documentatary! I still haven't posted mine, not that many though, just haven't gotten me, my camera, adapter cable and computer all in the same place quite yet...

Lo and behold, finally added some pictures (40). I guess there's no way to edit the titles or annotate them once they're loaded into the album???

Kent (Marcia Jane), if I get ambitious, I'll try to load yours in there also.

Thank you Steve! I still can't figure out how to get them onto the C-Brat site. My daughter had transferred the photos from past years and she can't help me right now. I tried once and the picture came out real small. Maybe it's a brain block! OR my age. That's why my C-brat album has only one picture in it. I have approx. 50 Picasa albums all organized and their process of creating web albums somehow makes logical sense to me.

Thanks again!

P.S. I was hoping to get down to San Pedro and see the Battleship Iowa come in this weekend. "Stuff" has come up and unfortunately I can't get down there. We'll have to visit it in July, when it opens to the public.

All done, Kent's photos loaded. And they loaded SUPER FAST because no downsizing required, about 1 photo/second (in groups of 5). Hope you don't mind Kent, but I didn't post some of your pictures that were pretty much duplicated by others. Love them all, different perspectives.

Might be my 'vintage' computer, a 2002/03 Dell GX400, 1GB memory running Windows 2000 server. Ha!
