For those who intend on cruising along the Atlantic or Gulf coast this fall, the CSU hurricane forecast has been published. Forewarned is forearmed - we all know that forecasts have a degree of uncertainty, but like any 'weather' forecast, prudent to know the best guess by meteorolgists.

It is not only those who are cruising the Gulf Coast--but those of us who live on, or make our livings on the Gulf Coast. We don't like seeing predictions of increased hurricane activity. But in general the predictions cannot tell us anything until the storm actually begins to form. Then as it matures, we are tracking it daily if not hourly. Hurricanes hit relitatively narrow sections of coast lines with their intense winds, but the storm surges do a great deal of dammage in far more reaching areas. They are also known to change direction and intensity very rapidly.

Another factor is the miccro bursts, and toronado's which form in the storm and cause extensive localized damage, on top of the high winds.

I wish all of our C Dory brethern along the Hurricane belt the best of luck this season! We have still not entirely recovered from storms 6 years ago.
 
Amen, Dr. Bob! One of our favorite restaurants was just demolished, a fatality from Hurricane Dolly in 2008. There are still repairs on-going on some buildings. As I recall, the prediction from the Hurricane Center for last year was a more active than average season... and it was a pretty quiet year. Let's hope they have "guessed" high once again.

It's been an unusual winter and early spring for much of the country. We could all use an easy summer and fall.
