2007 C-Dory 22 Cruiser new molded interior (photos)

Please note one BIG improvment about the new interior. Apparently the cabinet doors have positive latches. The kind where you poke through the door and unlatch, not the spring type Journey On has. I have the parts for JO, and (any moment now) upgrade those doors.

In a rough sea it's a bear to have to keep your foot in front of all doors at once, but Judy can do it. Now if I can figure out how to keep the drawers from sliding open. Any suggestions?

Well, here's a free suggestion for the cabinet doors: as long as they are going through the effort (and class) to put some wood trim on them, why not show the world that these are mighty little cruising boats and put some louvers in the doors? Those who have spent plenty of time on the water know how important it is to get some circulation all through the boat; we make it a point to prop our doors open when we aren't in the boat to facilitate some airflow.

I'll bet the collective wisdom and experience of the owners here could suggest all sorts of improvements to these boats that wouldn't cost a dime (after the mold is made). Just thinking how the factory could easily garner support for changes like these with some input from the Brats.

Maybe I've missed it, but are the cabinet doors fiberglass or decraguard?
 
Boris, For RVs there is a very strong sort of cabinet latch that easily screws on to cabinet doors and/or drawers. The first versions of this were fairly weak, but last year they seem to have really beefed them up.

They only cost a couple of dollars a set at most RV stores. I put a ton of them on my RV, and need to do the drawers in the TomCat.

Could you please put up the brand name of these RV latches you like and maybe a pic or two? Have the cabinet doors handled (with barrel latches) but the drawers still slide open, fall out, and dump the contents all over the floor...

Jim, I'd asked that a few pages back too...today we were at Sportcraft picking up the CatyMae and I asked...the doors are Decraguard.

From the photos, it looks nice. One issue which I suspect has not been corrected: The teak trim on the decraguard has just been stabled on in the past--no glue or sealant on the edge of the plywood--this can loosen and delaminate in time. I wish they would glue the teak in place.

I agree that louvered doors are better. But the costs of loovered doors, especially in teak may be substantial.

I think the primary reason is to get the motors farther from the dash so that they won't interfer with a compass (or will allow a compass to be mounted in a wider variety of locations).

the move off the wiper motor was for interference with the compass
mounting spot I mounted my compass there and had to move the wiper motor around in order to get the compass to work at all. and still was barely able to take out all the variance. Those are some big magnets in those suckers.

Pat, RE: Brand name of strong, snap/lock cabinet/drawer latches - They don't come in a labeled package at the two RV stores I go to. They are black plastic (polycarbonate, I think) and cost $2-4 a set. They are narrow, maybe less than 1/2 inch by 2 1/4 inch with two screw openings. 'Easily fit on top lip of drawers.

Right now we are in heavy ice, but when I can get back out into things, I'll post a picture. I may even stop by the RV place to try to get the brand name.

On the compas interference issue. Don't put you cell phone anywhere near it.
I wondered why my radar overlay was suddenly about 20 degrees off this week. Found I had dumped the phone on that nice flat surface above the vee berth rigt next to my fkuxgate compass !!! :embarrased

30 minutes to figure out that something was interfering with the fluxgate compass. David, you and Merv are making me me feel inadequate. I'm not going to say how long it took me to figure out the same thing. A few phone calls (and maybe a turn of the calendar page) later I discovered that my two collaspable chairs stowed in the bottom of the starboard cabinet were too close to the Autopilot fluxgate.

Well what do you expect from a newbie anyway.
 
Byrdman can tell you about our compass experience. We thought we were in the Bermuda triangle at night. WOW what a relief when you figure out what happened. The culprit was a zipper on a sleeping bag. Roger "Sensei" and Cathy waited over an hour on us to take what should have been a 15 minute run.
I guess while I'm here I'll give my opinion on the new interior. It looks great! I think you would have to work real hard at messing up the looks of these fine boats. Shoot, they even look good with a satellite tv tracker and a big honk'n AC unit on the roof. :lol:
