12/16 - Lake Washington/Locks Cruise - CANCELLED

Just my luck -- when the weather changes for the better, that's when I have to go out of town! I'll be back tomorrow night, and hopefully there will be some good boating days left in this cycle!

Just wanted to let everyone now that I will be at the Lake Union Sea Ray store on the 16th and I will have a TomCat and 25 Cruiser in the water. So I thought I would join the cruise and invite other C-Dory owners who will be in the area and do not have there boats available to join me if they would like to get out on the water.

Scott:

We looked at the 25 out at your Fife store. A gentleman named Krona was great about letting us crawl all over it. A ride would be great, if that is a possibility.

Well today I visited the Lake Union Sea Ray/C-Dory dealer to get a test run regarding dockage and stuff. I had asked any one if they would like to ride along and Shannon Greenway, of TomandShan fame took me up on the offer. She is an experienced boat person and was a great help on the water and at the dealers. I must say, the people at the dealership were most accomodating and are looking forward to our visit. They will clear a 100 foot floating pier for us with and easy cruise straight in , U-turn and facing out dockage for as many boats as will fit. They will have people to assist with docking and rafting up if necessary. Just bring your bumpers and short lines. There may even be a C-Ranger Tug 25, if they can arrange it. They plan to have several C-Dory boats available to look at and at least one or two in the water. Scott Matthew, who many of you know, will be there to give rides to any boatless wannabees and answer any questions. The liason person from the dealer is Harry Walp. He is anxious to know what C-Dory questions you may have for him. If you wish, you can post your question on this thread (he monitors this tread) or email Harry directly at <h.walp@lakeunionsearay.com> . Any question is fair, he would just like some time to research the complicated ones.
I have even heard a rumor that there might be a formal presentation of the Nicest Guy/Best Boat C-Brat Bottle Opener Award during the stop. (I really can't say who is the winner but I sure am hoping Brock and Bambina show up.) I hope the 16th is as nice a day as today was, and I do hope you will all turn out for this on the water CBGT.And thanks again Shan, for all your help.

As for me, here are my thoughts.

My kids are coming in from out of state and I am sure that visiting a boat dealer is not their idea of a good time. But I think that going through the locks, visiting the fishing fleet, etc. would be fun.

Hopefully there will be opportunities for visiting other than at the dealer.

Warren

Warren-because you so rightly raised the issue of some not wanting to visit a dealer, but rather using limited daylight to traverse the Hiram Chittendem Locks we arranged for William Gregory (Chubby Bunny), our lockmaster, to accompany you and about three other boats directly to and through the locks. My previous post (12/5 at 5:30) is for those who want to stop at the new dealer during the Lake union Cruise. I really cant speak to the January Black Mouth Seminar. Sorry. Look forward to seeing you and the TomCat on the 16. MartyP

Uhhh -- I doubt that I will be bringing my boat down on the 16th. I may come down on my own if my kids go off on their own.

Sorry for not clarifying that sooner.

Warren

Warren- You and the kids are welcome, with or without the boat. If you show up at the dealers I'm sure you can get a ride past the fishing fleet to the locks. Their address is 2500 Westlake Ave.North, Seattle. Hope you can make it.

Good deal, Scott - somebody ought to take you up on a ride!

WOW... this looks to be a blast!! I have enjoyed the cruises each time I have been in Seattle thru a comercial vender and sure wish I could be out there and do this in C-Dory boats. What a blast!! Any of yall up for getting a group together for the Friday, 26Jan, 1pm cruise listed below? We "non-locals" have for sure had a blast on this.

Byrdman

Byrdman- We know you will be with us in spirit.

By the way gang. When we tie up at SeaRay, we will be right next to the Daedelus, the 119 foot long German built Boeing-owned megayacht. In Greek mythology Daedelus is the father of Icarus and made his (Icarus' ) wings. Bring your camera! formore, if not all, of the Icaurus story please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icarus_(mythology)

Larry Q - now that you have signed up for this cruise, will you be going up there by boat with Jim and me, if the weather permits?

It would be nice if we could have a regular flotilla going up there.

Any one else interested in making the trip with us, or meeting us on the way? Our itinerary for the trip up is here.

Dave, we were planning on coming up and launching in the seattle area on friday afternoon, but looking at your route I think I might be interested in doing that with you. If we come up to Olympia on friday evening where should we launch and park. We would probably stay friday night in the camper near the launch.

Hi folks, I've been busy at work and haven't seen this thread in about a week, so let me clarify a couple of points about the locks:

1) I am stopping by the dealer according to whatever the schedule is, so if you'd like to skip the dealer and go straight through the locks, go for it! If you're concerned about darkness, then get back to the locks by 4pm. It'll probably be dark by 5pm but the ship canal is lit up like a football stadium from all of the lights along the shore.

2) If you're concerned about the locks themselves, don't be. Just pull in, get your lines tied to the wall or the next boat, and have fun. I am happy to be the "lockmaster" but please don't think that locking through actually requires any assistance from me. This is just a way for me to be a helpful contributor to the group.

Oldgrowth-
I would love to make the trip by water, but I have to be back Sunday by 10am to sell Christmas trees for the lions club.
If weather permits I will launch just south of Bellevue and run north to the U. W. meeting area. If the weather isn't so nice I may try Kirkland or Kenmore.
You are welcome to follow me up I-5, 405 to the Coalcreek off ramp if it's to rough for your adventure.

Thanks for clarifying, Chubby Bunny-We, have reevaluated the locks part of the trip and now feel we should all stop by the dealers for about an hour or so. Then off to the locks where you can decide if you wish to go on through them. Chubby Bunny on the Jenny G. will be there to provide any assistance you require or desire. I would also like to be clear that the Lake Union SeaRay will be functioning mainly as the C-Dory factory's representative. You can march all over their display boats, in and out of the water, ask any questions, whether or not you plan to be a customer of this particular dealer. They are great folks and truly representative of the high quality C-Dory dealerships found across the country.
It's getting close! tell you friends to pray for good weather. As my mom used to say, "It can't hurt."

Lloyd - that would be great if you do go up with us. I will post some additional information about different options for you within the next couple of days.

Thanks Dave, I will watch for them. Weather could be a deciding factor. From the narrows all the way to seattle can be a bear in bad winds.

Dave, how about the Olympia launch? Can we leave the camper and trailer there, and can we stay in the camper that friday night? Which ramp do you plan on using?
