12/16 - Lake Washington/Locks Cruise - CANCELLED

Catman Brock (Bambina) has kindly agreed to be our Lake Washington Master Chief Yoeman. He will write an article about the event and hopefully get it published in Nor'westing magazine. That is, if he doesn't have writers' brock! (I couldn't resist stealing that remark from his acceptance PM). By the way, no one has stepped up to be our photographer. I do hope you guys with cameras will snap away and post your pictures and get them to Brock for his article. Thanks.

Dave, Thanks for the video link.... I had heard about that... you know alot of Boeing work is done here in Wichita. I worked nights at Boeing while going to undergraduate school. John
In the 50’s & 60’s ever body in the greater Seattle worked for Boeing. In the 90’s I guess they decided Boeing was not that important, especially with Boeing doing a lot of military contracts and Seattle being an anti military city. Now you guys and Illinois have them.

Dave-Out of loyalty to my son Joe, a Boeing engineer, I bought a small amount of Boeing stock a few years ago at 52. When they had their internal lapses and were losng to Airbus, I sold it at 42. It closed Wednesday at 90! Boeiing is back, and hiring in Renton and Everett.

Jim & his wife of jstrates and I will be coming to this gathering by boats from the South Sound. I don’t know if there is anyone else in this area that would like to meet up with us, but if you do, I have posted our route and times HERE. We will be monitoring channel 68.

Marty - you will give us a nice day for this, wont you?

For goodness sakes Dave! what a detailed Flight Plan. What altitude you gonna be at, does it depend on the ceiling?

Just joking, do you do this for every trip?

I normally never do it, I just launch and go. Jim of jstates said he would like to tag along and asked questions that I was only able to answer if I knew what I was doing, so I needed to do some charting for the answers. I am glad he asked the questions because it was fun doing it.

Just want to chime in again that I'm still hoping for a ride. A couple of them, actually, unless somebody is willing to take all four of us in a single boat!

Here's my proposal:
If I can get a single boat willing to host part of my crew, I'll have my wife join you; I want her to gain some experience with the C-Dory. It's part of a long-term sales pitch, you understand. I'll take the kids in the car, and we'll drive to some likely viewpoints and try to catch a glimpse of the flotilla. Maybe take pictures, but I can't make promises...if I'm wrangling both kids, sometimes photography gets neglected.

If I can get two boats willing to host, I'll have my wife and the 7-year-old daughter go in one, and I'll wrangle the three-year-old daughter in the other.

If I get feedback indicating that grownups are welcome, but the kids aren't, I completely understand; I can probably arrange babysitting.

So, who wants to help me sell my wife on the C-Dory?

Thanks!

Tim Flanagan

Tim – if you can’t get a ride in a 22, (I know that is what you are looking for) I would be happy to take you or your wife in my boat. It is only a 16 foot cruiser and you can see my schedule HERE. Real bad weather or heavy fog will probably keep me from making it. If I do I should be at the SeaRay dealer between 10:30 and 10:40. I am 95% certain I will be by my self so will have room for one when I get there.

Ivars Salmon house & moorage--We had brunch at Ivars today. Just for kicks I went outside and measured their concrete floating dock. I stepped off a good 300 feet and counting. If you are planning an after CBGT get together this is a very easy access place with great food reasonably priced. People from around Seattle are all familiar with Ivars, but this is a special one with wonderful historical photos and artifacts. Also, if you are looking for free overnight moorage with access to food and bathrooms during business hours, I 'm pretty sure it would be OK to stay there at this time of the year. (I haven't checked this out with their management) It is located on the north shore of Lake Union, just west of the I-5 bridge.

Tim-My advice, based on limited experience, would be to leave the kids home on this trip. If they come your wife is going to be completely absorbed in their safety and orientation and not be able to really enjoy the experience. Just my thoughts.

You know, that sounds right to me, too. I'll start working on setting up a babysitter now. Thanks.

Tim,
I think there will be several 22's there. Probably the best place to get a ride would be from the Sea Ray dealer since many are going there. I suggest you and your wife just plan to go there and play it by ear. I would not take the lack of positive offers as "no's". For example our plans are dependent on weather so we are unwilling to make commitments now and I suspect others may be in the same boat (a C-Dory :) )

That sounds right. Back when I was doing a lot of yacht racing, it was standard procedure to just show up at Shilshole or Leschi, all geared up, and wave at boats passing by. I never knew anyone who failed to get a ride that way.

We'll be at Sea-Ray.

Colobear, you put into words what I've been thinking.

Timflan, I'm sure there will be no problem with catching a ride on a CD22. It's just kinda up in the air right now.

Here's a breakdown of the sizes of the boats signed up for the cruise:

25.5 Tomcat--1
25--------------2
22--------------9
19--------------2 (maybe 3)
16--------------3

I'm going to go over to the Sea ray dealer on Tuesday, 12/5 to say hello, check on dockage, etc. If anyone wants to ride over with me on LIZZIE call me anytime at 425 301-1238. I'll buy you lunch at Ivars. Thanks. Marty

And here is hoping for no floods, high winds, snow, etc...this has not exactly been the ideal winter for cruising around here!
