12/16 - Lake Washington/Locks Cruise - CANCELLED

Okay Dave. We will go to your launch friday afternoon/evening. I will call you when we get there. We will stay there that night, and saturday morning if it looks bad we may decide to pull out and drive up to like Seward Park and launch. But the preference is to make the run. Will start putting everything back in the boat tonight. Had had it all buttoned up for the winter.

Hey, I got half the patients and staff at the VAHospital prayin for peace in the world and good weather on Saturday, so there is a chance! You three 16 footers from the south sound are the best. We appreciate your efforts but above all stay safe. Hope to see you and everybody else on Saturday.

So, what are the other half praying for? How could you be against whirled peas and good weather??

Dave

Due to unforseen circumstances I will not be going to Seattle this weekend. However I appreciate your planning, hope to meet up with the CBrats at another get together.

Hope your weather is good and you have a great adventure.

I do plan to explore Puget sound starting at Harstine Island, Olympia and going north Dec 24 or 25 thru New Years. I will open a new topic in case others would like to join or have suggestions.

Jim

Lloyd - I will look forward to seeing you Friday. The weather still looks like it will be OK by Saturday.

Thursday night there are predicted wind waves of 6 to 8 feet and 4 to 6 feet on Friday. After midnight Friday the waves are suppose to drop down in the 2 foot range and 1 foot range on Saturday and Sunday.

Jim – I am sorry you won’t be making the trip with us. Have fun with your end of year cruise and maybe we will cross paths sometime in the future.

This is some serious weather for Puget Sound. Looks like Saturday may be OK. I still plan on launching at Sand Point around 09:00. I was wondering if anyone else will be launching at Sand Point. Let me know and I will wait around.

Fred

Lloyd – just so you know the latest report. Friday night the winds should decrease and be from the north in the 10 mph range. The latest report shows them continuing in the 10 mph range when we are scheduled to leave at 06:30 Saturday. They will gradually increase to 16 to 18 mph by the time we are going through the Tacoma Narrows. While we shouldn’t have any trouble making it, it could add more than an hour to our time, which would put us at the Ship Canal sometime after 11 AM. It looks like the South Sound will have the worst weather Saturday morning.

As you know, the predictions and actual weather can change several times before Saturday AM. The thing that concerns me is the closer to launch time we get the worse the predictions are.

The other problem we may have is visibility when we leave the dock. If we have heavy clouds there will not be enough light to see for another 45 minutes. While this normally wouldn’t be a problem, after the storm there could be all types of debris and deadheads floating in the water. Making it there is not a problem, but making it there in time for the festivities may be.

If both conditions are against us, it could be closer to 1 PM before we get there.

My lights are blinking here at the office in downtown Olympia so I had better get this off before I lose power.

Terri called and said we have already lost power in Rochester.

Sea Ray certainly didn't miss a lick with this one. Always thinking.

Dave, I have just made the command decision, after talking to the Admiral, we will be going on to seattle boatless. We are going to the get together saturday, then taking care of some business later. The trip would have been great but I don't think this is the weekend for it. We lost power about 6 last night and just got it back this morning. The highways are a mess. Now if we can get past centralia today all should be well. I will give you a shout as we pass olympia. Still want to do the trip. I haven't been all the way south in the sound as of yet and want to do it. Have some friends out on harstene but have never been there by boat.

I have regretfully made the decision to cancel the cruise
I am sure that you all appreciate the circumstances under which I found it necessary to cancel. I have notified the people at lake union searay as well as those of you for whom I have phone numbers.
All the best to everybody and hopefully we will be able to pull this off next year ( this message is being sent to you by my brother in law in NJ because I have no power at my home)

Sorry to hear this Marty. I guess I will still make my way to Lake Union Sea Ray tomorrow. Is there anyone else who is up for this cruise? Since the winds look mild tomorrow I still would like to get out on the water.
We still are without power but my Honda generator is allowing my to get this message out.

Fred

Well, the trusty cheap Costco Generac generator is allowing me to post! I intended to pass on the voice mail message Marty left on my cell, "in the interests of convenience and safety, I am cancelling the cruise," but I see he beat me to it...Fred - doubt we will be going ourselves now that the shindig at Lake Union SeaRay is off...

Note: CRUISE CANCELLED

I just received a phone call from Brock, asking that I post a cancellation notice for the cruise.

Looks like a few of you beat me to it, though...

To make sure this announcement doesn't get lost in the posts, I'll be locking this thread temporarily - I'll unlock it after tomorrow (Saturday.)

Bill

Special thanks to Lake Union Sea Ray/C-Dory dealer for the boat rides and the tables of food. So very much appreciated.

Others in attendance while we were there:

Tom and Susan (SUSAN E)
Dan and Jo Richman (NOOKTA) Recently purchased 22CD
Sue and Lloyd of Oregon (SUE'C)
Dane of LaConner (NUTMEG)
Tim and Julia (No CD yet!)
Jeremy (also no CD yet - Sark's friend).

So good visiting with everyone which included stopping in at Roger and Beth's (SENSEI) on the way home. A great day!

Huge thanks to Tom and Susan. Excellent hosts, and a great ad-hoc marketing team for C-Dory.

Julia and I had a great time. Met Tom and Susan up at Kenmore, climbed aboard as they got her launched, and by the time we climbed off in Kenmore five hours later, we'd met a bunch of friendly C-Brats, enjoyed the goodies provided by Lake Union Sea Ray, test-rode a TC at speed, and taken turns at the wheel. Through it all—this is the important part—nobody got seasick. It was cold out, but the water was smooth, and we enjoyed periodic views of Mt. Rainier and the Olympics, as well as the always-fascinating shoreline of the Ship Canal out to the locks and back. To top it all off, on the way home Julia said that I can buy a C-Dory 22! So all in all, this was a really good day. :-)

Our power was still out when we got home, and we had naught but the memory of the cozy cabin aboard the Susan E. to keep us warm. Power finally came on at 5:15 pm or so.
