09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

We are dripping with green envy!!! We have never been to Powell and were really looking forward to being with all of you ---- and partaking of Bill and Chris' vast bank of knowledge, but it's not to be this year. DARN !! Some unexpected things have come up and we are going to need to stay put for the time being.
Everyone, enjoy your Powell cruise to the hilt !!!

Hello, everybody who is aiming for Lake Powell. I am docked at Wahweap and getting juiced up for the week(s) to come. Talked with Chris an hour ago, and he is in Phoenix, headed this way to put in tomorrow. El and Bill are somewhere on the lake, I believe. The pod that has been Grand Slammin' is arriving this evening. Slowly, we are gathering. I believe that Oak Canyon on the 20th is the major meeting, but we shall have minor meetings before that. Get a hold of me if you need help putting into the Lake. see you soon.

We are still aiming to arrive at Wahweap some time on Monday the 15th, but that may slip. Daydream is sitting in our driveway for the first time since May, but various things cropped up that prevented us from getting everything loaded tonight as planned. First, the positive wire from the VSR to the house was corroded and broken off. Got that fixed. Shore power somehow screwed up, reverse polarity light on...changed the leads on the plug, 110v circuits working, so not too worried about the reverse polarity light still being on (but puzzled for sure). But all this futzing, plus a neighborhood meeting on our deteriorating gravel road, mean we are way behind where we expected to be. Les Schwab tomorrow to get the bearings repacked and brakes checked - will take off early from work, pick up the boat, and see if we can get loaded and get away tomorrow evening...

Pat,
Sorry to hear of your maintenance problems. Still hope to see you Monday evening at Wahweap. We are at Torrey, Ut., just outside Capitol Reef NP. We plan on spending today in the park and early tomorrow morning will head for Page. This country is spectacular-every view looks like a picture out of National Geographic. When I woke up this morning at 5:30 the stars were as clear and bright as I have ever seen them. The weather has turned cool and windy but still clear sunny skies. It was 39 degrees this morning! Be sure to bring something warm for the evenings.

Amazingly, it seems as though we are back on track for a departure this evening! Picking up the boat with new brakes and bearings at 4:30 p.m. - back here by maybe 5:30 p.m., everything is sitting in the middle of the living room ready to go out to the boat, should be on the road by 6:30 or 7:00 p.m., heading for Camp Walmart in Yakima!

Hello,
Nancy and I live in Moab - we have been planning for a long time to come to lake Powell to see some of the boats gathering there - specifically Dreamer and Cavu - but also others. We had planned on arriving Monday, but now can't make it until Tuesday very likely. I had the thought that perhaps there might be some folks putting in at Bullfrog, which is much closer to us. Anyone out there going to Bullfrog? If not, we'lkl be heading to Wahweap as originally planned. Hopefully Pat and Ken will still be around!

Thanks,
Tom

Steve, Karen, Mary Jo and myself took a detour to Bryce Canyon. We got here yesterday and will spend tomorrow here. Probably head on down to Powell the next day. See everyone soon.

Roger

Tom and Nancy,
It will be nice to meet up with you on the 19th. I'll look for you at Bullfrog around noon. Maybe I can help you launch. I'll be passing Bullfrog for supplies and fuel on my way to Oak Canyon to hook up with others on the 20th.
Hope to see you.

I know most of you are probably already on the road or maybe there already, but for those of you who are ham radio operators, I just heard from Wayne (W7WAC) who is the repeater trustee of the Navajo Mtn 146.96 repeater. He has a new link installed and the repeater is now part of the Utah VHF Society system of linked repeaters. It will be much busier than it has in the past and the range will be much further, but the positive side of that is that it will be easier to get ahold of someone if you ever have need of help via ham radio.

Hope to see many of you sometime after next weekend.

We made it to Wahweap today. We are set up in the RV park and will launch tomorrow morning. Haven't heard anything from Daydream-wondering if Pat made it to Camp Discovery tonight? Everything is a long walk here. Good provisions at the Safeway. There was a wildfire in the Escalante yesterday and there is still a lot of smoke in the air.

Scouted Lake Powell from 35,000 feet last evening returning to Las Vegas NV for North Carolina. Lake looked good but did not spot any C-Dories!

You all have a great time -- wish we could have joined you -- maybe next year.

Things don't seem to be working out to visit with Daydream and Cavu - although Pat and Ken did their very best to accomodate us. By the time we arrive, they'll be out enjoying the lake - I'm jealous!
So my question is: Is there anyone arriving Tuesday or Wednesday morning who wouldn't mind givng us a brief tour of their boat? It's Monday night as I write this and my only chance to receive replies will be tonight. Any responses would be welcome. Thanks!
