    Wallas Poof

It might depend in the year of manufacture (or the software version). The manual that came with mine in 2008 makes no reference to a special shutdown procedure. I simply switch it off. So far no problrms but it can't last :)

    Stowable generator bracket

:thup Thanks for this nice idea! A (not so?) small possibility for the next iteration: perhaps the vertical frame could be shaped like a parallelogram aimed sternwise. That would move the generator exhaust further from the cabin. Suspension of the platform might be tricky.

? Where to buy good eggs ?

About the yolk color: egg 'farms' can (and do) produce almost any yolk color they desire by manipulating the chickens' diet. So yolk color probably isn't immediately related to taste. The situation is the similar with farmed salmon: artificial color is added to the salmons' food to get nice pink...

stuck in the hole, getting up on plane

Thanks to all for this info. Joe, I see that you are a wind wave theoretician in addition to all your other skills. You'd think though that NOAA would have a decent numerical model from which they could calculate wave periods at a large set of points over the bay, taking into account the...

stuck in the hole, getting up on plane

Marine weather forecasts for oceans include predictions of wave periods. I have yet to see a forecast of wave periods for the Chesapeake Bay. Marine forecasts for the bay give wave heights without periods. Does anyone know why are periods not part of the forecasts? Roy...

Tomcat owners, your checklist for winterization?

Roger's post reminded me that the Wallas is meant to be 'winterized' by disposing of the old fuel and replacing a fuel filter. I think I saw this on the Scan Marine web site.

Tomcat owners, your checklist for winterization?

Matt: Here are my thoughts on this: I haven't performed these steps yet and there may be things I don't understand so let's hope someone can comment on them. If your cold water tank slopes aft like mine there are about 10g that are not directly pumped out. That means that it will be quite...

Strange noise from my port fuel tank today

This is just a wild guess but could it be something outside the tank vibrating and hitting the tank randomly, like the straps or buckles holding it in place. If the tank was nearly empty that might sound louder when you put your ear to the filler. Also, could the the fuel level device inside the...

    What's in YOUR water tank?

Bob: Here is a photo of the pump and filter (located under the galley locker). Quick question: how do you remove the filter? It looks like the see through part should unscrew to show the filter element but I haven't been able to get it off with a reasonable amount of force. How do you get...

    What's in YOUR water tank?

You can use a "deck plate" as seen here http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|6880|48504&id=47563 You can get solid or see through. Mine is 6" interior diameter and see through but there is not enough contrast in the tank to see much. Use a jigsaw to cut the hole. Because they cut...

    What's in YOUR water tank?

There was an earlier discussion about removing the hatch cover here http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=9783&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= but it seems that you have to be able to open the hatch nearly 180 degrees for the trick to work. Is there some way to pull the hatch off...

    What's in YOUR water tank?

Yes, it is under a port side locker adjacent to the v-berth. Open the locker and you are confronted with a standard hatch cover (like those in the v-berth but horizontal). Open the hatch cover and you get to the water tank. It is a considerable inconvenience that the hatch can only be opened...
