C-Brats: Have you ever owned a VW bus/camper?

We spent the night in Telluride (CO) and met a young Australian couple touring in a Westfalia camper. The had rented it in Denver, from a company that rents only Westfalia's. I had no idea anyone was renting them! Best, C&M ...in Ouray, headed for Silverton!

C-Brats: Have you ever owned a VW bus/camper?

...as I suspected. There just seems to be a natural affinity between C-Dory's and VW campers/busses! C&M Currently in Estes Park - headed across TrailRidge Road

C-Brats: Have you ever owned a VW bus/camper?

Ok -this isn't directly C-Dory oriented, but it's indirectly related I think. For years I have been surprised at the number of C-Brats we've met who have owned a VW camper. There just seems to be a coincidence of folks who have owned both. Have you? My pop-top camper was a '69 (as I recall)...

Nice Visit in Birch Bay with Flint and Leslie Firestone!

Say "Hi" for us, too! We met (and dined) with them on theErie Canal last year and again at the Hontoon Island CBGT just before the boat swap. Casey&Mary ...Newfoundland, headed south (slowly).

Using our C-Dory 25 as our RV towing cross country

Glad you had a safe, uneventful trip. I'm a little surprised that a campground refused you a site, but I guess that's their 'right. As you've already seen, most campgrounds just see the boat as a novelty and want a photo. We're on Day 71 of our Maritime Provinces truck camping trip (we left...

SE Alaska & the Yukon River 2016

We remember the bus systems in both Juneau and Ketchikan. After riding on both systems several times, we were convinced they hired their drivers from NASCAR wannabe's! Best, Casey&Mary Sussex, NB and northbound....

    Garthauer crane wanted

If anyone else wants a Garthauer lift we have one that's no longer needed (we sold our kayak). We won't be back home for a while, but if you're in no rush - give a 'shout in the Fall. I had the lift modified with a longer pole so it would permit added clearance for the kayak, otherwise in...

SE Alaska & the Yukon River 2016

I chanced upon "The Alaskan Bush People" just before we departed on our current trip. I must admit.it was kind of interesting - but in a weird sort of way. I'm being rather charitable. My impression. Is that it might be more aptly named "The Squirrel Family." Aside from the rather faked...

Using our C-Dory 25 as our RV towing cross country

"Boaterhoming" has become fairly common these days. We have done it quite a lot, and have never been refused in a campground (although we sometimes get some curious looks). Obviously a pull-through campsite is good, if available. Have a bucket to contain your grey water plus an extension...

    Brats get married

Congratulations! Mary read about your marriage on FB, and now it's Complete (here on 'Brats)! We're off on Friday to the Canadian Maritime Provinces ... "truck camping" for the summer. Dessert 1st isn't happy at being left home ... but she'll survive. Where will you be this summer, and what...

    fuel tank gauges

As an alternative to cutting into the fuel tank(s) you might want to install a fuel monitoring system like the Navman Fuel 2100. (Oop's, I just noticed that the Navman Fuel 2100 is no longer available. But maybe through eBay or some other source.) The device measures fuel usage directly...

SE Alaska & the Yukon River 2016

Good to hear that AT&T now has connectivity at Baranof Warm Springs! Previously I remember that the back of the bay was pretty cut-off - not even a VHF signal (so getting wx wasn't even an option). Mary's FAVORITE place in all of SEAK was BWS. Best, Casey&Mary

    Latest toy

So I wonder how long it will be until Jay and Jody decide to trade-in their Mokai's for hover boards?? Jay will be the first to circumnavigate Baranof Islandon a hover board, and Jody will be the first to get quadcopter video of himself while on a hover board. Watch out Lake Powell (and SEAK)...

    Sling Launching

We love the lift launch at Annacortes; keep the bearing out of the salt water! As someone said - the lift operators are very accustomed to vessels w/o sling cutouts. ...no problem. We made a slight change to "Dessert 1st." We installed a heavy duty "bow eye" on the port & starboard transom...

I've heard of a boy in a bubble....

I'm delighted our discussion, although still serious, seems to have taken a somewhat lighter tone. Harvey ... With your recent experience as an escort vessel when can we expect to hear that you've signed-on as Bubble Boy's escort vessel? :-) (Harvey's Note to Self: Install Much larger fuel...

I've heard of a boy in a bubble....

Somehow I think my use of the term "let him go" was misinterpreted. "Let him go" (and die...) was NOT what I meant. That would be pretty cold-hearted. "Let him go" (to pursue his Adventure) was what I meant. Adventures, and Adventurer's come in all sorts and sizes. None of them have to pass...

I've heard of a boy in a bubble....

I agree with the "let him go..." side of this debate. (Wo)man's Adventurous side is often challenged and sometimes that Adventureous side is successful, sometime's not. If death is the result of the Advenure, so be it. I agree that the cost of rescue should not be a public expense, but there...

    Dessert 1st: Non-boating summer

Pickleball ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickleball ) is somewhat like tennis but played on a half-size (?) court using a wiffle ball. It's reputed to be the fastest growing sport in the US. Interestingly, it was first played in Bainbridge Island (WA) in 1965. Mary finished her "referee"...

    Dessert 1st: Non-boating summer

Dessert 1st is "on the hard" for the summer. We struck the Bimini and installed the cover a couple of days ago, and installed some "DampRid" containers, so she's ready for a summer of 'retirement. After last year's Adventure up the ICW we've opted for a non-boating summer this year. We plan...

    v-berth "middle" cushion

Dessert 1st came with a cushion (kind of a trapezoid shape), but the original owner replaced it with a hinged seat/board. It works very well. In the space where a cushion would be we keep a Type IV throwable cushion. We like the arrangement better than original. Best, Casey&Mary
