    Firearms onboard

Interesting discussion. Have been considering the CC course, since I have a Ruger .45 auto as my main, as well as a Beretta .32 auto as my backup, sort of like my 100 Merc. main, and my 6 Merc kicker. Am about to take the CC course here in New Mexico. Just started reading the book "In The...

    Smoking on a C-Dory

Great stuff! Been there, and done (most of) that. Smoked my first Camel (non-filtered) in 1948. Smoked from then until April 24, 1981. Used to carry my cigarettes in the handlebars of my tricycle. (Pull off the handle grip, stuff cigarettes in the opening, and put back the handle grip. When...

    Forum Moderators

Hi, Mike, So glad you are willing to bury the hatchet. "Probably the biggest help the Mods will provide is in organization. We never demand that someone puts a topic in right place at the right time, and we don't really worry too much about "off topic" posts. (I still have nightmares about...

    Shrink Wrap

Biggest question I would have is one of mildew. If you're pulling your boat out of a fairly wet environment, and storing it with very little air circulation, what might be growing under that shrink wrap in the interim? Ya might ask that question of anyone who you contract with to do the job. Ken

    Cape Cruiser Boats

Interesting stuff. Until we understand the franchising rules of C-Dory, the rules (contract) of the buyout, all the licensing stuff regarding trademarks, copyrights, and such, it's really hard to say who is right (or legally protected). Mark Toland certainly isn't going to post the purchase...

    Chips out of bottom/transom gelcoat...

In my own humble opinion, breeches of the gelcoat are more aesthetic than structural. Under that gelcoat are multiple layers of fiberglass matting (Roving) that are laminated with many applications of epoxy resin. That in itself is impervious to leakage. The Gelcoat adds the finishing touch...

    Tongue weight

These scales are designed to be weighing hundreds of thousands of pounds. The accuracy of these scales is really decreased when you get down into the 5000 lb. range. Most measuring instruments are designed to work in the 20 to 80 percent range of the total range of the scale. Also, weighing...

    C-Dory floatation

Perhaps the question should be posed a little differently. Is the concern the life-supporting attitude of the boat once it sinks (or at least fills with all the water it will allow), or one of recovery once it goes to the bottom? I'm gonna guess that it is the former. And my guess is that the...

    C-Dory floatation

Hi, All, Some of the earlier discussions on this subject can be found below (Sorry, still haven't figured out how to do a simple link here). LINK The USCG requires that boats under 20 feet have built-in foam flotation. 20 feet and above, and you're on your own. We know that the 25's have...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Not a good time for more hurricane activity in the Southeast. But so far, Ophelia seems pretty mild, and according to the Navy weather forecasts, will remain so. They're predicting atmospheric pressure drops down to around 1000 millibars (normal atmospheric pressure is about 1013 millibars. A...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

New Orleans is certainly a (mostly) impoverished city, with a very high black population, but I'm still having a lot of difficulty relating that fact to the outcome of this terrible tragedy. The vast majority of those folks are decent people, trying to eek out some kind of living under some...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Thanks, Butch, I didn't realize I was as "one with nature" as I thought. I was thinking that you might be doing things like bicycle-powering your washing machine, like that mayor in Arcata, CA was doing for a while. My wife and I do pretty much what you describe, although not a whole lot more...

New Orleans and Katrina - Cause and Effect

Hi, Butch, This may sound like a really stupid question, but just how do we become one with nature? Perhaps better asked, what are you doing to become one with nature. Maybe we can learn from what you are doing. Ken
