01/12 - 01/15 - Providence Boat Show and C-Brat Convention

Dear Everyone,
Y-Landing is in negotiations with a Providence RI Restaurant to host a get-together for C-Dory enthusiasts blended with the Providence Boatshow 12-15 January06. Was wondering how much interest this would generate. We're going to be there anyway, and don't need a huge excuse to see our many C-Dory friends (and throw a party). Maybe we can get a link for sign-up and we'll post details to follow. I guess to start we'd like to see how many can come, and we'll whittle down the details as we have more info from the restaurant.
I have a TERRIBLE time logging on to the C-Dogs, so if anyone wants to relay my invitation to them I would DEEPLY appreciate it. We expect to be showing off the TOMCAT and the 25' CRUISER at the boatshow.
Come one, come all...

GO C-DORY!

John, Bummer.... My 18Angler will be in Mt. Juliet TN at Moms. Driving up that far for Christmas. Then leave there to go to the left coast for a while..mix of travel, looking at hopefully Dive Cat, and the SBS Gathering. Sure wish the dates were a few days out. I do not return to Nashville/Mt. Juliet TN until 16Jan06... I can not wait to get up that way...and, the 18 is not really set up yet (but I have not had the days at home with my brothers... ) for cold climate overnights.

John,

Count me in. I would be glad to work the show with you. Our little group can tell some great stories about our "little Yachts" and why we bought them, and why we love them. I did leave a posting on the other site under "Boat Shows". Dun and Becky Smith are interested. Others will fall in line. HUNKY_DORY, where are you?

Fred Heap

In case I wasn't clear, we don't particularly need the people with their boats, just the people that MAKE this group so great. We'll bring the boats, you bring yourselves and maybe a few stories to share. We're working on the cocktail hours, etc.
And thanks Fred. Saw the post.
Unfortunately, this won't be as big as the Seattle Boatshow, but we're working on it.
What a great site...

Inn the Water: Hunky Dory Calling

Ooh, Ooh! My favorites! C-Dorys, C-Brats, Food & cocktails. In January! Is that legal?

Yeah, we'd like to come play with a bunch of C-Brats. We only get to see each other in the summer. Never did that in the winter. We're looking forward to it. Maybe it'll make the winter seem shorter if we get together with some C-Dory friends in Winter.

Friday or Saturday Night works best for us, since I'll be working on a project in January.

Rick --
Why do we think your "project" has nothing to do with Hunky Dory?? Anyway, sounds like a great idea for a Gathering and wish we could be there to lift a cool one with you folks.

Hi, John,

I'll pass along your invitation to the C-DOGs.

Drop me an e-mail, and let me know what kind of problem you are having logging on, and I'll see if we can get it fixed.

Ken

Well this certainly sounds like a hit!! I renamed and moved the thread so it would show up in the right spot on the Upcoming Events list, added it to the calendar, and made a signup list. And since this will probably turn into a full blown C-Brat Convention, that's what we can call it.

If the logistics change just let me know, and the info can be updated.

Thanks, John, for the great idea and the willingness to make it into a tradition. I hope you know what you have gotten yourself into!

Hi El & Bill,

You can bet we'll hoist one in your honor, along with one to Mike, Bill & Ken for hosting these web sites.

You're right, again. I'm getting to work on the new Submarine Rescue System this winter. Keeps me out of trouble in the winter when I can't play on Hunky Dory.

Hope your planned travels for this winter are a ball.

John: Don't worry about big. Some of the best times I have had on C-Dory has been with one other boat, or one other owner. Great idea...and I will keep the right coast shows in mind next year...

Now Bill and El: Sounds like we need to set up another east side gathering a bit more south as to allow them to break shead their winter gear, break their boats out of hibernation, and come south a bit in early spring....before our insects and heat get out of hand..... Lake Martin in Alexander City is a great lake, 750 shore line miles,....or there is always the "Little Horseshoe" from Eufaula, AL, south to the Gulf, west to Mobile Bay, then up the Alabama River pulling out in Montgomery, AL. That one could be done early March.....

And Ken.... Sherryl has mentioned in our talks with others you opening your home for coffee and fellowship when we were bringing FreeByrd back cross county... "Total strangers....never met, and ya just fling your home open and welcome others in because they have a C-Dory..." :o 8)

:hug C-Dory :hug2 , Yep, that is what it is all about.

Hi John et al,

That sounds like a great idea. Saturday night would work best for us. There are some great restaurants in Providence...or so I hear.

We may even be able to do some ice boating. Can you fit some blades on your 25 footer?

Dun (CTYankee)

OK,
We can't keep a good idea down.

Our plan right now is to have a 25" Cruiser in the water for the Boatshow. To have an "In The Water Boatshow" in January in New England is pretty rare (OK, unheard of...) and quite exciting for the Boatshow organizers and for us.
Of course, not many boats could pull this off (and we're told we could be considered crazy to try). It may not come together as this area can completely ice over if the weather is cold enough long enough. We're voting for global warming at this point!
More details to follow. Hope to have the restaurant name this week. Thanks for the support!

Hi John,

Any news on the date and place for the gathering? Dave and Valerie (Widget) may be able to come, and we're all anxiously waiting details.

Dun (CTYankee)

John, you are one of the most decent salesman I know and I can't believe you are trying to pedal these incredible seaworthy vessels on a pond in New Hampshire. I will be there just to see you get a little SALT water spray in your hair.

Count us in for Saturday. My Wife Lorraine and I have a 22' Cruiser we bought in California in 1990. Another Hunky Dory. We towed her to Maryland where we cruised the Potomac for 7 years and towed her to South Berwick, Maine where she's tucked away for the winter. Looking forward to meeting C Dory owners. Is there a boat show website for directions?
See you then.

Time and Date of gathering set???

They may be moving the Seattle Boat show dates forward due to Seattle Seahawks being in playoff games. Town can not support both game and boat show crowd.

Might could change flights back to the east side to Saturday 14 Jan instead of 15 or 16th.... if they move the dates forward.

Airport and hotel recommendations please.

In an attempt to firm up some plans for this event, I polled the signed up attendees. Here’s a plan. Obviously, we’re flexible and can change to suit situations. But, this will get us started, or at least get us all to one point at the same time!

What: The C-Dory 2006 Providence Boat Show Gathering
Where: Providence RI Boat Show www.providenceboatshow.com
Date: Saturday, Jan 14, 2006
Time: 2:00 PM
Meeting Place: Y-Landing Marina, C-Dory Exhibit
Dinner: 6:00 PM
Restaurant: TBA ( Once I get an approximate number of dinner attendees, I can query local eateries to see who can handle us, or we can decide at the show.)

Rick & Carol from Maine

WOW... way high flight prices between Seattle, WA and RI....then back down to Nashville, TN. Does not look like I can make this one. Sorry gang... cost prohibitive here..... That is a bunch of boat toy money.

Sorry you can't make it Pat. El and Bill spoke fondly of you on the Erie Canal and said you would fit right into our litte (but growing) Northeast C-Brat group. We'll look for you next time. Maybe on the Chesapeake next spring?

Have a ball in Seattle!
