    Repower thoughts

Tilt / Trim units are fairly easy to diagnose; Separate electrical, vs low fluid vs hydaulic component failure is easy. The motor is very easy to replace, or it may just be an elecrical issue, like a corroded wire/connection. What happens when you press the switch on the motor ? Have you...

Best C Dory 22 Cruiser Toilet/Privacy solution (besides the berth)

My father's boat had only thru hull cockit scuppers, and no thru hull for drains or heads. The "head" was a galvanized bucket under a wooden round seat (not the most comfortable) in a wooden box which also served as a seat for dinner in the cabin on my father's 26' sailboat. The bucket was...

    Repower thoughts

I would suggest a DF 90 A Suzuki. It is the lightest of the major brands at 10 to 30 lbs ligher than the others. It is a good engine, and should do well for many years. The Suzuki will be lighter than your ETEC HO is (it is built on a heavier V4 block from the Standard ETEC, built on a...

Must bunks align with stern when on a boat lift

I agree with SEdowneast. I have a foot to 2 feet at the most not supported. I prefer none or a foot. My lift bunks are true diminsinal 2 x 10's set on edge, two spaced about 3" apart on each side. My lift does not take a lot of adjustment between the C Dory 22, C Dory 25 and Tom Cat--the Tom...

    2004 King trailer weight

In Forida you have to have the weight. I always just take the trailer to a truck scale and detatch it on the scale. Then you can get a certified weight from the weigh master. It will be between 1000 and 1200 lbs.

    New Owner of a 2008 23' Venture I've named "C-farer"

    Inflatable dinghy storage

As Tom notes In different parts of the World you have different anchoring and beaching situations. We Carry a dinghy if going on a cruise--but usually not for Day trips. If I was in Alaska, I would carry it all of the time. First it is your life boat! If you have dogs it is a good way to get...

    Trailer bunk bracket help

The 1/2" bolts are strong enough--as DaveinRI notes they are in shear. The shear load rating for a single joint SAE grade 2 1/2" bolt is 8,718lbs, for the threaded (13 threads per inch) area it drops to only 6,300lbs. There are two pocket guides which go with me on a boat or RV (actualy...

    2003 C-Dory 25 Cruiser with Trailer – $50,000 - Lewes, Delaware

Our first C Dory 25 had the 130 Honda. Cruising LaKe Powell, or Alaska loaded for a month at a time with all food, and full tanks, plus one or two dogs and 2 adults, we were running in the 16 to 18 mph on a plane-- as fuel burned off, we could cruise closer to 20 mph. Top speeds were a little...

We just picked up a 2004C Dory 22 cruiser.

Congratulations and welcome aboard! First time I have seen a Catahoula on the dash of a C Dory--probably the first time I have seen a Catahoula ib a C Dory. Dogs and C dorys go hand in hand, as to kayaks! Now the Catahoula in a Kayak....that might be a different story. From the photos...

Anybody bust one of these off in calm seas?

It will be very intersting to see how you improve on the design with the 3D printer. Good Choice. What material will be used? Us old guys forget about that method of parts replacement.

    Race to AK, 2026

It's this time of year, (or every other year these days) for Race to Alaska. The second leg leg of this race is from Victoria Harbor BC to Ketchecan, AK. The second day out, a Farrier 32SR foiling Trimaran "Northbound Nutters" is way in the lead having already passed thru Seymour Narrows...

C-DORY 22' to 26' Cruiser or Venture Model Wanted East Coast

Occasionally you may find a 22 cruiser under $25,000. Unfortunately most have gone for almost double that recenty. There are a couple for $28,500. At the lower price you may be looking at a repower in the next few years (15K range). Occasionally a 22 comes up with a low hp--50 or so. and...

A new slant on an electic boat.

I noted an article in Boat US this month. "Norway's Fleet of 'Flying Electric Ferries'. These are hydrofoil boats by Candela Electric boats. The specific boat in the article is a passanger ferry catamaran which runs on foils. But many of their boats were monohulls. Here is a video on an...

Anybody bust one of these off in calm seas?

Never broke one off. I would use a Dremel tool and clean. up the corrosion to the base metal. Not sure that tab is alumium. However, this is a good place fo use J B weld. I have used in on life line stantions and it held well. A nighbor had a problem with an alumum block GMC diesel. He...

    Window screens for 1999 22?

I buy "no see-em" fine net from an army surplus store. It was fabricated for a tent about 8x 10 feet ??, I have made wintow screen for at least 4 C Dorys and given away a fair amount of this insect screen. I glue velcro along the edge of the screen, and the mating vecro on the window frame...

Repair log - wet transom core

The epoxy is stronger, and gives much better secondary bond to other materials than polyester resins. I am not sure what you mean by "fiberglass cap". Epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester resins all have different properties. The vinyl ester resins are about half way between the polyester and...

    V700 Lewmar

Probably wear on the clutches. Are you doing properly inspecting the clutches for corrosion or wear? The windlass should be washed down with fresh water after each use. I prefer the Horizontal Lewmar. There often is not enough "fall" for the rhode/chain because of the size of the anchor...

    Wider sleeping area.

We have done from St. Croix confluence to the Illinois Confluence. Your stretch is about 300 miles, and that means hustling to make that 50 miles a day. There are lots of great towns along the way. "Meandering Notes of a Riverlorian", by Mike Link & Kate Crowley is certainly worth reading...
