How to get off the dock safely

Especialy with twins, I would consider putting a set of shifters in the cockpit on the aft cabin bulkhead. If you had an auto pilot, you could have a manual remote to "steer" the boat, or differential speeds/gear in the twins to "steer" the boat.

    Solar water heating project

I would consider the 12 volt DC / 200 watt heater to sustain a temperature already reached with 110V AC. I prefer the Bosch 2.5 gallon water heater just under the sink/faucet area--with virtually no "dead space" water to be wasted. That has a 1200 watt 120 volt element, and I would tend to...

    Battery charger

Often problems are caused by the ground wire corrosion which seems to be neglected at times. Use your volt meter to verify that there is a charging current. At rest a Lead Acid battery should read 12.7 +/-1 volts. When the charger is working properly the voltage should 13.1 or more. AGM and...

    Replacing snap fastener

I like to put a little lube on the fasteners peroidically. There are some specific materials: Shurhold Snap-It Lubricant Stick or Star Brite Snap & Zipper Lubricant or just some vasolene or similar material will act as a lubricant and protect the surface. With that much corrosion, I would...

    Replacing snap fastener

I am having a little trouble envisioning which style of snap you are using. Normally the camper back use the "Dot" snap, with female on the fabric and male screwed into the fiberglass of the hull. The "Dot" are less likely to be damaged. The twist lock is most susceptable to damage. The...

    Repair/Replace Gunwale Wood

Good way to do the repair. I go a little further for the "seal" after the filling of the void. The nonskid is ground smooth (dremel tool with sanding disk or 2" sanding disk in high speed drill motor--could be a flexible shaft, which I prefer, but have the setup for a 1/4" flexable shaft, as...

    Garmin 2006c

I have used I phone and I pad basically since they were available, on the C Dory in that same area, and had no problems. IF we have heavy spray the window is closed.

    Garmin 2006c

I have to disagree with John a little bit here, on the need to have a bottom picture and Radar. I have used Radar at home, in the Pensacola area--both for running at night and in fog. One may not be near a safe sandy bank to pull the boat upon when that fog rolls in, or the sun sets. I have...

How about the self launching of the anchor?

Template Pictures: Rocna Vulcan & Mantus M2

I would want the anchor to be self launching. It does not appear that the Valcan, as you have it pictured, even if the bail were higher, would self launch. Were you going to put the templets on wood, and try that? You may need an articuating anchor pulpit.

contact for new or replacement dinette cushions

There was a good seamstress, who re-covered some cushions we had on the highway leading to Sequem near the casino. But that was 35 years ago...so I doubt still in business. I see there are several upholustery shops near and in Sequim, I would get bids from both of them. These cushions are...

    Tomcat 24 with Suzuki 140s?

My 2006 TC 255 ran 21" props and with the Suzuki 150s, 2 extra AGM group 31's in the cabin, would run in the very high 40 mph, if fuel was down one person, no gear, it could hit 49 mph to 50 mph.

    Tomcat 24 with Suzuki 140s?

Molly Brown, owner "James" repowered as part of his upgrade of his original boat. I believe he has Suzuki 140's. This was done more recently, and are the newer 140'a. Around 2016 or so, the second edition of the Suzuki 140 was released, and it has HP near the 140 +, Earlier 140's were closer...

Half Price Rope at Defender: New England Ropes 8-Plait, $0.74 a foot for 1/2"

The vertical orientation of the windlass is the problem. You have to have a certain stiffness with line, and adequate fall distance with the chain. The Horizontal is far better for the C Dory. I have owned two vertical orientation windass; one was on a sailboat where I had all chain rode...

    Saltwater Slip

I agree with the use of hose connection to the blocks as a method of flushing the block. Unfortunately it does not adequetly flush the water pump and adjacent passages. Running them for a few seconds in a bag or container of fresh water will keep these clear--the longer run is still suggested...

    SV Panope Anchor Testing

Jay wrote: " Unfortunately Manson quit making the Boss." I was under that impression also. Looking at the Manson web site it appears that they still build and sell the "Boss" in New Zealand. It is even for sale now on Amazon for $300, plus Shipping, and should arrive in 3 to 4...

    SV Panope Anchor Testing

If you are going to relate your anchoring to the extremely rare condition where the wind goes from 10 k to 70 k, there is no anchor or rode system which will guarantee holding. When a strong wind hits, and once your anchor starts to drag, then you are in very serious trouble. The anchor most...

Leaking Front Hatch on 2011 22 Cruiser

I have troweled in epoxy with filler and microbaloons into the area of removed balsa core. For the fiber, I cut very thin strips of glass mat and added them slowly as the fairly fast setting resin. It does not take a lot to build up 1/4". It is not unusual that the hatch openings over size...

    Saltwater Slip

You can put "bags" filled with fresh water under and then "over" the motors. Some put a pvc membrane lining on the whole slip, either floating or pull the stern part up to over the water's edge, and fill with fresh water. No growth on the boat or motor. Dealing with growth on the "membrane"...
