    Western Erie Canal

The State Park at Seneca Lake is a good place to launch. One can leave truck and trailer parked there indefinitely at no charge. I have recommended Lockport (Widewaters) as a possible starting point near the west end of the Canal. Recently my wife and I visited the inner harbor area of...

    Western Erie Canal

We have a home on Rochester and a cottage on L. Ontario halfway to Buffalo. We regularly put into the Erie Canal at Lockport: there is an excellent launch, and parking area (both free) at Widewaters Marina.

    COLD Lake Ontario

.I will not go out on the lake in my Sunfish sailboat until it is at least 50 degrees. Yes, L. Ontario does warm up...but never to 85 degrees!! We are happy when it gets over 70.

    COLD Lake Ontario

Tuesday afternoon, in a NE wind, I put into L. Ontario and made a quick run. The temp gauge registered 41-42 degrees, and hit a low of 40.5! Apparently, the water had "turned over" (which typically happens when we get a strong wind from the NE).

Trailering from the US into Canada?

We have crossed the border into Canada with the CD, and know the required routine for getting into Canada and back into the US...via boat. This summer we plan to trailer the CD across the border and do some boating in Canada, and then trailer it back into the US. Can we check the boat into...

    Is it spring yet?

We have had bum weather all "spring" in western NY. Rain, rain and more rain (at historic levels). We got our CD and truck stuck twice in the mud. Right now, at 9:30 am, I am sitting in our cottage looking out at L. Ontario: can't see a thing except fog. It's been that way daily for the past...

    craigslist scammer???

I agree this is a scam. But let me ask... What do scammers get from a response? Names and addresses are readily available. What can they do with a cell phone number? Or is the point to get a contact, for the purposes of personal followup?

    CD22 Cabin Carpet Dimensions?

The carpet runner in my CD-22 (see photos) was purchased from the stock rolls of carpet runner at Home Depot. It comes bound on the (side) edges and is a perfect fit!

    Space between Bunk and Boat

I adjusted mine up and in, using spacers: made a big difference in ease of loading.

    No Juice :(

Even something as simple as dirty connectors may be the culprit. (That was the case on my 5th wheel two years ago.) Use sandpaper to shine up the copper connectors.

    Launching / Retrieving

I, too, regularly launch and retrieve my CD-22 single-handed. Typically, when I have guests with me, they want to "help." My stock response is, "Thank you, but it's best if I do it myself. But I do ask that you close your eyes, as it is embarrassingly easy! The keys for me are: side-bunk...

    Great Lakes Tsunamis?

For a brief time, Rochester had a "big ferry" that ran back and forth to Toronto a couple of times per day during the summer months. It created a powerful wake: the first two were huge (tsunami-like) and arrived onshore "silently," without warning. We have a cottage at a campground on L...

Crazy idea due to high fuel costs

    Very cute!

    Centric II Helm Seat

I have a seat from Cabela's that lies completely flat, at exactly the height of the kitchen counter. See photos. I do not remember the product name or number. It is a high back seat (I think it is available in a low back version too.)

    Winters not Fun Joke Time

Presently, we are in Burundi, Africa, 3 degrees south of the equator. Here the temp is "equal" year-round. Last month, it was fairly comfortable...in the 80s most days. The past two weeks, most days, it has been about 90. It gets uncomfortable when the humidity also tops 90, which is most...

    Starboard Material

Chuck: By bigger porta-potti, I meant higher. I have four porta-potties (for various uses). They vary slightly in dimensional size, but all four will fit in "the original place" in the cuddy of the C-Dory. However, some are higher, and some lower, than others...by as much as four inches...

    Starboard Material

Chuck: By "small removable head" do you mean porta-potti? If so, they come in different heights. It might be cheaper and easier simply to buy a new, higher porta-potti. (I put in one with a shorter height, so I could have more head room (pun intended). Wayne

    Trailering and other things

I note that the experience which initiated this thread was from an owner of a CD-25. I have a CD-22 which is much lighter, but I also tow (not at the same time!) a 32' fifth wheel which is heavier than the CD-25. The amount of weight one is towing makes a BIG difference. Another major factor...

    Is owning a 22 AND a 16 too decadent?

It's probably not decadent. But just think, you are robbing some one else from the fun of owning a C-Dory!
