Well after a new roof, new windows, new carpet, new stove and refer on the house I'm finally having a camper back canvas put on the boat. Am having alittle custom work added as well It will have a small removable head added. What I need to know is where in the Seattle area can you get Starboard,and can you use regular wood working tools on it? I want to build a small box like stand to raise the height of the porta pottie to a more comfortable level. anyone out there want a small side job? If I was going to make it out of concrete I would not have a problem, but my carpentrey skills suck, ask my wife. Thanks in advance
 
Yes, Starboard is pricey, it tracks the price of oil. For smaller pieces and a choice of colour and sizes try Defender. The price is reasonable (for that stuff.) Search for "Marine Lumber".

The last piece I bought I picked up at Fisheries. If you have an account there (e.g. sign up on line for free), the cost is about 10-15% less than the price listed. You might also check BoatersWorld.com I bought some from them a few years ago and they offer free shipping for all orders over $100. Free shipping can make a big difference on a heavy piece of Starboard.
 
Chuck: By "small removable head" do you mean porta-potti? If so, they come in different heights. It might be cheaper and easier simply to buy a new, higher porta-potti. (I put in one with a shorter height, so I could have more head room (pun intended). Wayne
 
There is a company in Lynnwood that always has a supply. I believe they are 185th (could be wrong). I have looked in my notes but cannot find the name. Sorry.
 
Buy the bigger porta potti and be done with it thetford or dometric has bigger potti's check them out .

Now if you want to have a private area like a c-25 then that's a different story .good luck in your quest for the perfect throne

When I said" small removable head" I meant that I am having a ceiling to deck U shaped removable curtain made that will go back center of the cockpit area with a window cover. It will be about 24x24 inches square. I thought about a larger porta pottie but want to be able to store it in its original place in the cuddy when not in use. It only needs to be about 12- 14 inches high to make the pottie more comfortable to use. Belive me this is more for the boss than me so money is no object.

If you haven't had the u-shaped enclosure made, you might look at the "Bimini Top Privacy Partition" from Cabela's ($110). It fastens to the underside of the Bimini bows w/ 4 SS pad eyes. It gives a 3'x3'x70" enclosure with a full length zipper. It rolls up & stores out of the way under the Bimini with a bungee cord.
My porti potty rides in the cockpit under a Coleman camp chair while cruising & can be easily slid under the enclosure.as needed. There is about 16 " or so beneath the camp chair so your porti potty could be raised some. My solar shower, hung from the radar arch, has a longer hose going into the privacy partition & works well. My sons & daughter-in-law all gave it a thumbs up last fall at Lake Powell. Sorry I can't find a photo.

You might try Lowes or another lumberyard. They have solid PVC boards used for exterior trim that would be a lot cheaper and probably work just as well for your application.

best prices for cutting boards is at restaurant suppliers. My buddy has a bbq shop and I was looking thru his suppliers catalog and could no believe he pricing. cheap.

By bigger porta-potti, I meant higher. I have four porta-potties (for various uses). They vary slightly in dimensional size, but all four will fit in "the original place" in the cuddy of the C-Dory. However, some are higher, and some lower, than others...by as much as four inches.

We also have rigged up a curtain (not custom made) that goes across mid-cabin, and makes "a privacy room" (for changing as well as toilet use).

Genuine Starboard™ is HPDE with UV inhibitors, someone said previously in the thread. How important is that for pieces that will be built for use outside of the cabin? Is the Lowe's exterior plastic comparable? TIA for any guidance.

Rick Will have to check out your idea of PVC boards Does it come in different thickness? Am thinking maybe 3/8 inch? Really did not know that Starboard was so spendy
Wayne Really dont want a Higher pottie as I generally keep that small center cushion in place. And can use the riser box for storage and such

He helped put together a group buy of Decraguard (laminated plywood used in cabinets) but AFAIK nothing for Starboard™.
