With the unusually warm spring temperatures-highs in the seventies, normal is in the fifties or a spring blizzard not uncommon. We decided to spend a weekend on Jackson Lake in Teton National Park, which is a beautiful 130 mile drive north of here. For those who have only traveled I 80 through Wyoming there really is more here than rocks, sage brush and desert.

This is what we found covering Jackson Lake.

While traveling through Teton National Park saw this Mama and her cubs on way to Jackson Lake.

With Yellowstone National Park not open to car traffic yet and the campgrounds in Teton National Park still closed decided to drive back toward home 60 miles and spend night at anchor on Greys River a inlet to Palisades Reservoir. The main inlet is the Snake River. This is located close to the small town of Alpine, Wyoming. Before anchoring for night we tried hip towing the Mokai to see how it would work out.

This is at displacement speed.

And this is at 14 mph.

At 14 mph it works well in smooth water, but to bouncy crossing wakes. Works great at displacement. Or at least it did in the conditions we were in that day.

This is where we anchored for night in the river.

During the night a log bumped us pretty hard so picked up anchor and moved down river to calmer water in the moonlight. Was good practice for our planned Alaska trip.

This is where we moved to. Jo-Lee's having her morning coffee

Docking the Mokia to the Hunkydory in fairly fast water proved to be very easy and fun. So was getting in and out.

This is coming up to dock.

Lot of fun playing around and practicing on the Mokai. Would go upstream in much faster water than I thought it would. At sea level I think it would go up past my level to keep it right side up.

Went up here with no problem and altitude is approximately 6500 ft.

With the record heat was surprised to find this ice and snow still along the river.

Over all great weekend and practice run for next month.

Way cool pics...thanks for sharing! Looks like a great trip.

Showed up once at Hyalite Reservoir outside of Bozeman, MT with the canoe on roof and ice still there. Had fun anyways.

You are one tough dude, Jay. We've sailed on Jackson Lake (still needed jackets in August) and it has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful areas on Earth... but after plenty of winters in the frozen northland, the only ice I want to be close to is in my margarita. :wink

Loved the photo essay - thanks for sharing. I'll be looking forward to the next installment.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

sorry posted to the wrong message.

Thanks and great pics.
We were in Yellowsstone NP two years ago with the kids and had a great time. We were glad to see so many improvements esp the roads being widen and re-paved.

Love hiking up Mt Washburn but there is no longer a Ranger stationed there.

Great pictures -- thanks for sharing your excursion with the rest of it -- best to you two --

Really nice pictures and you have a nice hat. Give it a few more years and it will start looking like mine.

I always enjoy your adventures and post.

Jim B-----Naw I'am not tough, but I've been in the company of some that are and none tougher or more enduring of tough conditions with a smile than my 42 year partner Jo-Lee. Sure can't tell tough by the cover.

Dave-----Yep that hats my latest addition to the collection and I do have at least one that if yours looks pretty rough will match it. Its 29 years old and I haven't wore it since going on my last sheep hunt in 1999. Can't seem to part with it due to the memories it invokes. Man that must sound crazy to most people.

Pleased you and others enjoyed the post.

Jay
