So... whose home state do you wish to offend? :twisted: Knowing that you are currently in Florida, I can guess why you are asking this question. :wink: I would be inclined to say it's Texas... they love their NASCAR here and like to emulate their favorite drivers, passing on either side, regardless of the number of lane(s). :shock: We are close enough to the border so that a great portion of the population here drives accordingly. Even without hills and curves, there are horrific crashes regularly, with multiple fatalities, right out of a drivers' ed movie. Most aggressive drivers I've seen.

In keeping with my on-going crusade to be an equal opportunity offensive kinda guy, I also have to nominate Minnesota drivers... they save the use of their turn signals until they are on the freeway and not intending to exit. They would come to the Black Hills to vacation... and drive 12 mph. Or pull onto an Interstate entrance ramp and stop instead of merging! :amgry

I have driven in Boston, New York, Washington DC, Atlanta, and Orlando.....and all points in between.
New York has alot of yelling, gesturing, and slow city traffic. To and from New Jersey in rush hour is like DC ..bumper to bumper and moving at a snail's pace. In the city the guys trying to wash your car at stoplights are actually more disconcerting than anything else. Boston is odd because of the traffic circles and the fact that everyone just ignores traffic lights after midnight or so. DC is bumper to bumper at a crawl almost 24/7.
Atlanta (at least the late 80s when I was there and in Alabama) was the most scary though. Like DC, Boston, NY and most everywhere else; the traffic at rush our is bumper to bumper. UNLIKE the afore mentioned, they actually speed up to about 80 bumper to bumper on I 285. :smilep
 
Jim, If TPTB shut off this thread it will be worth it for entertainment value alone! I think of it as therapy -- I can handle the traffic here better now :twisted:

In Washington State use of the 'turn signal' apparently means "please pull up so that I cannot change lanes" :?
 
I haven't strayed much away from the West Coast but the Seattle area definitely has some contenders. I used to hold california drivers in low esteem, everyone in oregon did. But after living in the Bay area for a year or so I find that most of them are just aggressive. And some are actually skilled while being aggressive. Not so in Seattle.
 
since the conversation is regarding inhospitable drivers, the question must be asked, of which sex are the worst? hands down, women!
in general, they will hold their course regardless of circumstances. won't let you cut in, will tail gate, will drive to slow or entirely to fast, all while putting on their makeup!

i normally fire a couple of rounds in the direction of the sob, kind of gets their attention and then they settle right down.

Anyway, here goes. I've towed trailers over most of the US, and find the same !@#$% everywhere: you're towing 9000# of boat with 4000# of pick-up, which should be obvious to everyone. Well what's obvious is you're a target. Some small car will dart in front of you AND THEN slam on their brakes. Where do they think you're going? Obviously no one cares. So far, luck beats skill. And sorry, I can't pick a state, this happens everywhere.

Also, you're driving along some highway, it either starts raining (northeast,) or hailing (mid-west) so hard you can't see, you slow down and you've got a line of cars on your rear so close you can't see the grill of the front car. Or you can read "Peterbuilt" backwards, cause it fills the rear view mirrors. And you can't get off, cause they didn't put off ramps there. How do those drivers make it through life?

And finally, no one in Oregon likes anything about California (except the wages we pay down here.)

Boris , I think that they have stopped teaching physics in school. You should have to pass a physics test to get your drivers license. And Boris when I lived in ca. you could always spot the drivers from Oregon on the on ramps. They would drive to the end of the off ramp and STOP to see if anyone was coming. I almost hit two of your neighbors that way.
 
Washington D.C. they are pretty bad but Boston has to be the worst., Some folks refer to them as Mass Holes. Don't shoot the messenger!

After 30 years of towing 5th wheels around the country, I agree with you Boris. White knuckle driving can happen anywhere but fortunately it's just a moment of frustration and the wish for a "disintegrate target's tires" button on the steering wheel.

Long term frustration comes from crappy roads and I don't know if the Pennsylvania turnpike or the New Jersey "Garden State Parkway" top the list. Then there's Minnesota where the same road changes names about every 3-5 miles just to keep you on your toes. Best roads, bar none though, was (surprisingly) Wisconsin.

Don'tcha just love the fact that we have to face Los Angeles traffic/drivers to get anywhere North? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Living in San Diego gives you one of 3 driving options for a long vacation: LA or the desert.

For LA, I'd love to leave home at 1 in the morning. Never made it. Then you get to climb the Ridge Route, and spend 5 hours driving up I-5 AND you're only to Sacramento.

Any other way and you've got (from Valley Centre) 50 miles of 2nd gear hills and then 300 miles of desert, and you're only in Nevada or Arizona (2 options.)

Those guys in Washington don't know how lucky they are.

Exactly right, my friend! (Originally from Gridley, California, yourself!)

Some of those those Oregonians with the signs "Welcome to Oregon, now Go Home" and Washingtonians (more polite with no signs, but same attitude) are, in large part, transplanted Californians that don't want to admit it, and/or share their new found home with any more escapees from the Golden Land of Freeways and Finger Salutes!

Furthermore, they don't want any other Oregonians or Washingtonians to know they're not natives, either, so the perfect duplex or double transaction is to jump on the case of any California license plated drivers behaving the least bit out of line by PNW Standards (whatever-in-the-hell that might be) and, this, at once, both seemingly declares their native status and derides the inferior driving habits and culture of those from the South, making them feel better on both counts.

But some of us know better, of course, and know that they're really just "California Turncoats", which then really describes a lot of the PNW folks! (No harm intended in the term, either way!)

All this is just fine with me, really, but the situation is funny when viewed from aside.

So folks as a native born Cally who has never lived in cal. for more then 4 years at a time, well never more then 4 years anywhere at a time, and now living in Wa. for 8 years ( the longest any where) how much longer before I am a native( what ever that is)??

Some do refer to us as Mass Holes. Ha ha - well I'm originally from Maine and it sure was a driving culture shock when I moved here.
