Window latch in lake (and c-dory picture)

I hope your window latch meets up with my window latch and they live happily ever after. After Dotty nixed a dive for it and the suggestion that we hire a dredge, I called Diamond Sea Glass and they sent one free of charge.

Is there room up there to add a safety lanyard to lasso in the wayaward part to prevent this type of awful tragedy?

If you are looking for a window latch for the window I have one. It is at the bottom of the Snohomish River just south of the town of Snohomish. It fell overboard during the 2004 river gathering.

Well, there's a couple of latches from Journey On in the ocean, and one in the Great Lakes. And Diamond Sea Glass never gave me one free. They just told me that the factory tape was great.

Anyone figured out how to glue them on to the glass?

Boris

"....you can certainly see by the photos that my window latch isn't missing!

Joe."

And if it was, there is plenty of light available to find it as long as it is not on the other side of the moon :moon . Way to go Joe :thup :thup

I have found our latch trying to escape into the Queens Reach on the way to Princes Louisa Inlet.

Boris,

We to had a near loss with the starboard latch.

Here's what I did for a fix:

Clean all the old adhesive off of the latch. Use an exacto knife and a magnifying lens for the last bit. Be careful not to distort the aluminum by removing too much of it. You want the maximun portion of the latch to be just as flat as the glass is.

Get you some rear veiw mirror adhesive. It's a very small amount of 2 part epoxy type of glue sold at most any auto parts store. I applied it and then closed the window so that the frame could hold the latch in place.

Can't get it off there now.

Good luck with the fix.

Dan

Dan, that sounds great. I've tried every type of glue, including two part epoxy for glass and they didn't hold. Couldn't take the damp and stress? Never thought of rear-view mirror epoxy. I'll get some tomorrow.

You know when I posted this subject a couple of years ago, NO_ONE, I mean no-one answered. Now there's a whole lot of people that have lost their latches. And one good fix.

Thanks, Boris

Boris,

My memory may not be right about the 2 part, but the rear veiw mirror adhesive is fer sure!!

Follow the directions to the letter and you'll be fine.

Dan

I can also tell that you have quite a difficult time seeing in the dark! Me too, recently, but I have not adopted your rather extreme coping measures!

So what is this window latch that everyone is losing? I don't think we lost one, but we might just not have noticed!

Joe,

Is that a windshield wiper I see on the center window of "SeaWolf"?

Also, I have to add this after my earlier comment about all the lights.

Other night, I was out walking at the marina (JWM - Sequim) and out over Travis Spit which must be about 2 miles I saw a VERY BRIGHT light. Looked to be the size of a pea and mercury vapor colored. And I could tell it was moving towards the Bay opening. Watched for a while and as it got closer, the size went up from golf ball, to tennis ball, and appeared to cover quite an arc. From a half mile away I could not look directly at the light, and certainly could not see any nav lights, but could see definite headway made. As it moved closer, (1/4 mile) and put me abeam, I could see how far out that light lit up the sea surface, and EVERYTHING in front of the vessel, making 10-12 knots. I could easily read a newspaper in that light level. :idea :idea :hot :hot

Now, I can see the reason for the lights, and the advantage, but heaven help anyone in the vicinity, or making opposing way in a close channel :smiled :smiled

Yes, I added it myself, but it's not electric, there's no convenient space or room for the motor above or below the window because of the electronics shelf above and the front dash shelf below. And the reason I didn't loose by center window latch is because I don't have one because my center window doesn't open!

I don't use the lights around other boats, usually, but they sure make it easy to enter coves and find things at night on a lake.

See ya' in Seattle in January at the CBGT & SBS!
