What does a C Dory 25 weigh

The C Dory website says that the 25 weighs 3,602 lbs (presumably without engines) and the all up trailer weight (boat, motor, trailer, fuel) weighs 4,800 lbs. Neither seems very credible to me and are internally inconsistent.

So anyone out there have real world data, either a travel lift weight of a boat with motors, batteries, gear, fuel and water; or a scale weight of a loaded trailer?

There have been discussions on this board before about the weight of teh CD25.

The factory recomended a 5400 pound capacity trailer, but I think a 6000 poiund would be better, depending on how heavy you load the boat.
 
I drove onto the truck scale around the corner from my house. About 3/4 fuel, perhaps 10 gallons of water and not loaded to cruise. The trailer remained attached to the truck. The scale read 6620 just on the axles. I had planned to weigh the entire rig, disconnect, re-weigh just the truck and subtract, but I could not get the truck and the trailer on the scale at the same time. :roll:
 
Mine weighed 7,450 lbs total (w/tongue) with full fuel (100 gal), 10 gal water, light raft and motor, ice chest with 2 days supplies, normal crusiing gear for a weekend. 2 anchors/chain/rope. Mine is considered a lightweight, most are 500-1000 lbs heavier.

You would be doing a dis-service if you sold any trailer less than 7,000 capacity for a C Dory 25. Ours was 6500, and I would have liked to have more. 6,000 is just for the boat and motor...no left over for the fuel, gear, food or the weight of the trailer itself.
 
Matt, I don't know what the factory recommends now, but the trailer they sold me in 2005 was a 7500# weight capacity (net) trailer.

It's worked well, and I wouldn't go any lighter.

I guess it's a moot point at this point since nobody's buying new C-Dory's.... :roll:

I believe that Mark's (LocalBoy) 25 is on a King KBT7000, but the last price list from the factory only offered the 5400 capacity trailers, which we knew were undersized.

I suspect that the published weight on the 25 (3602 pounds) is inaccurate, as with motor it should come in at about 4100-4200 pounds. That leaves almost 2000 pounds for fuel and gear, which in most boats that size would be a good margin of error.
 
Is there a plate on the trailer that states its capacity? When mine gets back from Gary Estes' shop I would like to look...
 
There should be a plate with the VIN number, and GVWR and Capacity. This is usually near the tongue on the main frame.

You are correct sir! It's a KBT7000B2, whatever the "B2" means. :? Disc brakes, surge, not electric.

And Pat, my VIN plate with all the info is located on the port side of the trailer, inboard near the front, on the main part of the frame.
 
B2 is likely the model designator for brakes on both axles .

I like to size trailers with at least carrying capacity of 20% margin above the weight of a normally loaded boat .
Our Tomcat trailers carry 12,000 Lbs for instance .
10000 Lbs for our Ranger 25 Tugs .
4400 Lbs for our C Dory 22s
It doesn't cost much more to do it .
