Ken I saw that news footage also, imagine my surprise. Made it down to Rocky Pointe yesterday via skyline as Cornelius pass is still closed.

Shearwater is still floating but did not get out unscathed, the kicker looks to be total loss (thank goodness I did not have my new 15 hp mounted). The 115 hp has some not so minor damage also and I now have cracks in the transom along the top edge on both corners. Still assessing the damage, did not want to move anything until I got additional pictures and have more daylight to finish checking things out.

What happened was the entire section of moorage sank from the weight of the snow and ice on the roof then resurfaced. My 3/8" three strand mooring lines were snapped like a piece of string and the structure came down on the motors. Thinking the only thing that saved Shearwater from sinking is that the water is only about 9' deep so the structure hit bottom before it could push Shearwater under.
Going back tomorrow to do a better assessment, lot of things I need to look very closely at (like the rear cleats with the snapped lines still dangling from them). I'll update with the details later.

I did post a couple of pictures in the Shearwater album that I need to resize.

Thinking I will contact the factory and haul her up to Kent for repair work.

Stevej, glad to hear the boat didn't go under but the damage doesn't sound like a nice new years gift at all. Hope that hull damage is a quick, easy, fix and your back on the river for springer fishing.

 Hey Mike,
I am still around. I have sooo  many more message boards to look at now that I have been neglecting  to do much posting but a lot of reading. Holiday season puts a lot of strain on my puting time.

Steve,
Sorry to hear (and see) Shearwater's misfortune. Several years ago after an extremely wet snow storm the weight of the snow on the roofs of a large covered area of the Edmonds, Wa. marina, caused the roofs to collapse and sink quite a few vessels.

Yep Mike,

It sho did! I was in the lineup waiting to cross the bridge to get a latte for the EQ gang... I waited quite a whilel Just looking at the big dent in the rail gave me the shivers.

I'm sure the driver won't forget that one for a while.

Hey Helen O Larry -

A little foggy over your way this morning? Couldn't see a thing from just above the fog bank at the top of the hill on the wya to work.

Yep, it was a little foggy this morning. Sure turned into a nice day though. I've been doing some "honey do's" lately. Tomorrow I'm going steelheading with the neighbor, it's play time.

Yo! Homies! Sorry I haven't had much time to write lately. I hope everyone had a great Valentine's day :love with lots of candy! Did you guys get that nice sunny day a little while ago:hot? It didn't go with the groundhog prediction of more foopy winter ( :cry )! Now it's time ta start puttin up da St. Patty's decorations.   :P

Saturday's weather report sounds good to me. We almost decided to run over today and found out that the ferry had some delays. Wind waves reported were 3 to 5 and up to 7 feet. No thanks, Saturday will get here soon enough.

Looks like the water in the eastern Strait Of Juan De Fuca is going to be awesome this weekend. Cynthia and I are going to cruise over to Victoria, B.C. tomorrow morning from Port Angeles. Should be smooth sailing, so if anyone gets the urge, bring your passport or birth certificate and D.L.
Oh, and say eh alot instead of huh. :)

Hey anyone know what the weather is doing up in the Vancouver Gulf Islands in the next week? Rick is headed there as of this Thursday. He will be leaving his C-Dory at Anacortes and helping some folks take their 37' Nordic Tug up to Juneau. It should be trial run for when we want to take the Amigo up there some time in the future.

Well-
After a week of high 40's and low 50's and sun, it's snowing again. Started this morning with no accumulation. Turned to rain and drizzled all day until about 6:00 or so. Then the rain turned back into snow. It took a couple of hours to get anything to stick, but now everything is white again. Oh how I love Alaska winters. Snow after tax day. Yeah... I'm lovin' it. Can you smell the sarcasm? :cry
