warranty

I am in the process of purchasing a 2007 16 foot angler (new). I asked if the 5 year hull warranty would be covered since c-dory has a new owner, and was told that the new company would not honor the warranty but the dealer would.
Before I drop a load of cash, has there been any issues that I should be concerned about.. Thanks for any suggestions

Get it in writing from the dealer, make sure it spells out what you want and what they agree to.

Exactly....make sure you understand exactly what is covered and what is not covered. Some warranties, even the old manufacturers warranty, tried to get out of covering anything that had to do with water damage for example.

Chas, the advice regarding getting it in writing is critical, but my suspicion is that you will not have any troubles with the hull.

To answer your question about issues of concern, there have been very few serious issues with the CDorys. In general, the boats are well made, using good materials. There are a few things that are a bit on the cheap side, like using angled braces that are rust prone to anchor cabinets, but nothing that would make me shy away from these boats. Hopefully, the CD 16 community will chip in with their observations.

I have a 2006 16 Angler and so far at least have not had any issues with the boat. Nce to see another C-Dory in Michigan. Welcome aboard!

Several concerns, how easy we forget. Rub rails have been a reoccurring problem on many boats of all sizes. Poor sealing of screws into the core has also been a problem. It’s a easy to fix but time consuming problem. I don’t know if the 16 has a bronze bow strip but these also have been a reoccurring problem on the 22s. The anchor drain hole has been a item of concern for many boats as has stress cracks in the fiberglass where the back of the cabin joins the side rail. Now these are just problems with the hulls themselves. All are minor and fixable and should be covered by a warranty on a new boat.

As for other items that have been added to the boat but not built by c-dory. All water pumps are suspect no matter who built it or what model it is. Wallas stoves? Well just search that one, love or hate but very little trust (not on the 16) . Ever thing else is owner add on stuff.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will be picking the boat up in the spring. The folks we are purchasing the boat from will store it until spring. We are not crazy about pulling it up from the Detroit area to the northwestern corner of the upper peninsula in the middle of winter. Lenny, I saw the photos of your 16 and it looks good.

A good dealer will cover the boat for you and that is good. I thnk that is a great plan to move older boats or boats not covered. Gives good will from the dealer and should improve his status in the community.

I doubt if there will be any issues with the boat that the dealer cannot fix easily, but agree to get in writing just exactly what will be covered..
