WALLAS STOVE PROBLEMS

Thought maybe someone here could help.

Just tried to fire up my wallas stove after sitting about 3 months, all I got at first was the red light blinking after a few minutes of not getting hot. Once it shut down I tried again, this time the red light did not come on , but the light in the rocker switch was blinking, still no heat. after a few minutes the red light started blinking then it shut down. the 3rd time I turned it on, it got hot but the exhaust was coming out the front of the stove where the vent is cut out. Once I shut it down , a little later, I noticed diesel fuel had dropped on down onto some of the stuff I had stored under the stove.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

James, Call Scan Marine 1-888-606-6665 or (206) 285-3675 Fax (206) 285-9532. I found them most helpful after my stove failed to light last week.

I believe that the codes may be slightly different for various models. As I recollect the blinking yellow power is low voltage (which would go along with failure to heat the glow plug and thus not ignigte the fuel). It sounds as if then you got too much fuel in the buner pot and it over flowed. My stove will not restart after two failed tries--and has to have the power source removed to reset.

I would check the voltage (and connections for corrosion first). You should have 12.8 volts at the stove. This often means running a battery charger, or the engine. On my 22 it had a battery right under the stove, so that there was not loss from a run of wire.

I'll try and find my book (for the 85 DP model) later today. There are several helpful parts in the archives under galley and Wallas stove for the older models.

I had very similar problems with a new Wallas earlier this year and you will find it documented on this site.

Bottom line is that after much discussion with Scan Marine (Ask for Mike who is the guy who knows and does the "fixes") it appears that what you have is certainly overfuelling which will give you drips on the cabin floor and also fumes in the cabin.

I wish I could tell you the fix. According to my long discussions with Mike it appears to be due to a number of small "issues" where the factory assumes that the tolerances etc all work together, and they really don't. So he fine tunes each of these areas and I must admit mine has worked perfectly ever since.

Guess you will just have to drive back up here to PNW.....

thanks all for the replys.

could of been voltage , was showing 12.4 on my meter at the helm.

after 2 attemps I did start the engine. 13.8 could of been flooded at that point.

also I am going to check the exhaust tube make sure no kritters have taking up home in there.
 
That's pretty much what happened to ours too....After taking the bottom plate off and cleaning the fuel spill (dumped lots of goods in plastics because that diesel just scoots right into anything plastic...I made one cup of coffee out of my International and chucked it in the trash...really foul!) ... we retried...turned the knob all the way up to high, hit the rocker switch and voila! it worked....don't know if it'd just sat for a month and forgot how to light or what...also, the fuel was the original from when we first got the boat...we dumped that and got fresh stuff that looked NOTHING like what we dumped...could've been the fuel we had too.

I do believe it was a voltage problem.
I also added about 3% iso/propyl alcohol to the diesel.

working fine now.

For what it's worth...

I was having difficulty finding Klean Heat in Texas for the Wallas.

I finally called the manufacturer a couple of weeks ago. They were very nice, and told me that they had just shipped Klean Heat to all Home Depot stores.

Sure enough, it showed up in my local store last week...
 
I claim absolutely no expertise on this- but my impression from reading the numeous posts on this site is that Klean Heat is odor-free and, unlike diesel, does not deteriorate if left unused. It also does not gunk up the Wallas. There is some more information at the site listed below:

I have a couple of gallons of Klean Heat and a brand new Wallas (my first). I have not fired it up yet. I will be doing so in the next few days. Let us see what happens...!

I used klean-heat from day one with my wallas and have had no problems (fingers crossed).
 
After stating that my wallas was working fine, I need to give a update.. :sad

Last weekend had more problems with it. first problem I think we caused by trying to start on low setting. wife had forgot she turned it down.

subsequent trys resulted in it getting hot then blowing fuse under the stove . which is 5 amp.

Someone here had suggested to contact Scanmarine, which I did yesterday, have not yet heard back.

Hate to be dropping my problem here, but hey, thats what this is for..right
