Wallas Countertop

It was my idea to more than double the amount of galley countertop by covering the Wallas with a product that could still be used as countertop/cutting board while the Wallas is in operation as a heater. I chose PaperStone. You can check out this material at PaperStoneProducts.com
Several Wallas dealers are interested in this idea and will be stocking the item as a Wallas option. Expect to see them start appearing in the stores come summer.
You can check out mine in my Nomad Mods album.

Looks like a great idea. I am always worried about anything on the counter being too near to the lid and hence a fire hazard while running the heater. It looks like it the one you made is designed to go over the newer Wallas lids that are flat and not angled down from the back?

This is really nice. I especially like the handles that make it a tray. I hope these are something we could buy sometime soon. (all of your mods look great).

I have a 1/2" thick UHMD type cutting board cut to fit in the recess on top of the Wallas that works quite well.

Great solution! I hadn't heard of PaperStone before this. Is this something you are making/marketing? For those of us with the Wallas with the sloped lid, I assume the handles could be made taller to fit over that?

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Great looking stuff Martin. Very nice. I had not heard of paper stone before. Is it pretty light? Are you going into production? George

When preping in the galley, another thought would be a custom fit cover for our sinks, that too would increase the counter top. We have used a cutting board with the no slide feet in the past and that has worked really well.

My neighbour two doors along is a certified Wallas supplier and maintenance guy. He has a Wallas for his own sailboat, and is also a skilled Marine woodworking craftsman. I designed it, he built it. If you are interested in ordering one or just have some questions, email Stuart McKenzie stuart@comoxmaw.ca
Next on the production line is a sink cover made from the same material. PaperStone is a very high end material, check it out PaperStoneProducts.com

Disclaimer: I have no financial gain or interest in anything Stuart makes for other people. It is strictly an arrangement between you and him.

Cheers,
Martin.

PaperStone®’s non-porous surface provides a lifetime of stain resistance and it absorbs virtually no water. Surface cuts or mars may be sanded or rubbed out with an abrasive pad and treated with PaperStone® Finish.

Just a heads up, raw meat on this wouldn't be a great idea as it appears to be potentially porous as it states virtually no water....
Either it is or is not. :crook

Great idea though.
