We had barely launched into Lake Kabetogama, turned on instruments, when we heard on ch. 16 "Halcyon" "Halcyon" "Halcyon" .... "Moose".

What a surprise! Moose was on a houseboat up on Rainy Lake, thought we might be on the lake, so gave a hail. We chatted a bit and hope to cross wakes in a week and a half when we hope to return to Voyageur.

If you folks haven't heard of Voyageur National Park, she's a gem for cruising and fishing. Think of coming to the Minnesota/Canada border (perhaps best in fall, after the bugs).
 
Actually, I was calling from a houseboat base just down the road from us; they have a 100' station antenna which is why I was able to reach you way down at Kabetogama.

We very much look forward to getting together with you folks after your canoe trip. We'll be gone on July 17th and part of the 18th, but after that the coast is clear for a cruise, so give us a call when you get back in our neck of the woods.

If you get together with El & Bill, be sure to share with them your awesome bird photographs. I am sure they will enjoy them as much as I have
Marlene and I are currently moored in the Harbor View Marina in Ludington, MI. I kind of wish I had brought along my fishing gear as the boat next to us came in last evening with eight salmon the biggest a King at 19 lbs. I also mentioned this for Mark's (Not-For-Hire) benefit.

WOW! How about that Voyageur Gathering we talked about some years ago? Just heard from Jeff and Julie on Moonstruck and there's Al and Myrna on Moose and we're here on Halcyon. Three C-dories are enough for a Gathering. How about this week coming up? Anytime couple or three day from July 19 to 25? Meet at NPS launch ramp at either Rainy Lake or Park Service ramp on Kabetogoma? Moose in charge if at Rainy we'll be guides on Kab? Anyone interested in meeting up here for the first annual Voyageur C-Dory Gathering? Come on to Minnesota - it's only a few thousand miles for most of you. The loons are calling as I write this ...
