Vinyl Helm Seat

I was looking through some of the photos. I noticed that the newer C-Dory's are no longer coming with the sunbrella canvas material. I would like to purchase the a new vinyl folding helm seat. Does anyone know the company that makes them?
 
I recently bought one at Bass Pro - higher back and more comfortable than stock. I took my old seat in with me to match up sizes. Plenty of options.

Our boat came with these folding seats. They were made by "Tempress" and sell for less than $90 at Cabelas. They work for us but may not be as substantial as what you are looking for.

Mary, I spent quit a long time at the SBS talking to the guy from Bentlley's and their seats are incredible. NOt only that, but the make them right there in Milwaukie, (next to Portland) Oregon. He said they will either have what you want or they will make it. AND for reasonable.

I saw Bentley seats on several boats at the Seattle Boat Show and was very impressed! Good looking seats, very substantial.

I had already bought the seat from Bass Pro ($90) - the Rivermaster seat is about 5 times that (and looks like it would be worth it)...

I mounted it just a bit forward from the original seat. It is more firm on the foam (a good thing) and sits just a bit higher; just enough room for my legs under the wheel. The taller back gives good support. I wasn't sure about the vinyl at first, but I spent a lot of hours at the helm of the cruise boats the last couple years, and they had comfortable vinyl seats.

I first notice the Bently Seats when I was drooling around on an Ocean Sport 33, over at IMC, Lopez Island. They are very nice seats, sturdy and comfortable and Bentley has patented the hinges they use. the other nice touch if you think you might not want vinyl -- they have a ballistic nylon, 100 times more penetration proof than sunbrella. AND, it comes in any color you want .........as long as you want ---------->>>> >> BLACK :twisted:

I'm a bit leary of vinyl or leather seats, living here in Redding, Ca, where the summer temperatures run 95 to 110 (more inside a locked car, which heats your seats up to 150-160 degrees).

I know some of you live in equally hot, or much more humid climates, which also can be a problem.

Personally, I prefer a cloth seat that breathes, as opposed to vinyl or leather.

We do have a lot of vinyl in boats, jet skis, and the like, but when it's 100+ I just stay wet to stay cool.

The cars have AC, of course, but I still like fabric.

Thank you everyone for there posts. I am ultimately looking for a fabric seat like the one I have currently. I am just wondering what company Triton is purchasing there seats from now.
 
I've had a recurring idea, mainly to set up a fabric seat with a pressurized fan to blow air into the interior of the cushions which would emerge from the fabric, cooling the seated person and evaporating any perspiration.

This could be simply pressurized air from fans, or air from the air conditioning system, on a car, boat, airplane, or……... you name it.

Would be easy to do, too.

Also, some folks on this site have had their existing seats rebuilt, including modifications in fabric type, padding, seat and back height, etc. Just another alaternative if you have a good shop handy.

You guys started talking about having BENTLEY making you a custom seat and I nearly had a heart attack - until I finally figured out you did not mean THAT Bentley...
 
About a month back, there was some discussion about helm seats, specifically those by Tempress, but I can't find that thread, so thought I would post here. I did just purchase a Tempress from Amazon for $124, to replace my original helm seat; the one using the Sunbrella or other cloth material. I hated that original seat. Hardly enuf room to get my full butt into, and I always felt like I was going to slide off of it...but with no where to go. After seeing the Tempress, I thought that might be an improvement. I did just install it today, and while it's not quite exactly what I want, I think it comes about as close to what I can get in the short area we have, to work, and still have a cushioned back rest. Only time will tell if it will suffice enough to be permanent. In the mean time, if anyone is looking to find one of the original seats, in blue, let me know. Not sure I want to get rid of the old seat yet (which is in good shape), but guess I really have no need to just store it. The new Tempress is definitely more comfortable, and as long as it holds up, I doubt I would pull it to put the old one back in. Colby
