Veteran's Day 2012

Thanks Rick, and thanks for the outing.

Thanks to all those who are actively serving now, who have family in that position, and especially to those who are separated for a term of service.

Thanks to those have served, somewhere, sometime, as was said today, "Worn our country's cloth". I have heard it said that the Veterans group is the largest minority in our country. May be a minority but with them there is a major difference.

Thanks to to those who have gone before, that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Would that we remember that freedom is not free.

Here is a salute to all. Raise our flag.

Recently I was in the Boise airport lounge and I saw a guy in a camo uniform heading up to the bar. As he was talking to the bartender a civilian in the back of the lounge shouted, "It's on me!"
On the way back the soldier passed his benefactor who said, 'Thank you for your service." The soldier expressed gratitude and went on his way.
That never would have happened 40 years ago but I'm glad it happens now.
This is one place I know my service will always be honored.

How right you are about 40 years ago. I had just started my Air Force career as a brand new 2Lt. Traveling in uniform was something you didn't do. It started to change in the 80's and after 91, it had made a complete 180.

Thanks to everyone on active duty today for keeping watch and for those who have done their duty.

My experience was a bit difference as a Major in the US Army Medical Corp 1967 thru 1969. I often traveled in uniform and never had a negative experience. I ended up in the 4th row for the inauguration of President Nixon in 1969 because I was in Uniform. (An anti Nixon Senator gave me his pass)

I had the honor of caring for those who had served in combat, as I was stationed at an Army Hospital. Our free world evolves around our military. Tonight during Dancing With the Stars Gilles Marini commented that he speaks English today and is free because Americans liberated his country (France during WW II and WW I).
 
True, but it is still worth it.

"Freedom has a flavor that only those who have fought for it, can really taste. Only those who have seen, who have been there, who have felt the struggle can ever know. They do, and some die, so that we might never know what they do."

"To live in this land, the greatest nation on earth, and to have that freedom is only possible because some have paid that ultimate price. To those, we owe so much."

From a preacher whose son returned home from a war, scarred for life, and whose brothers son came home in a box.
