Want to look inside one? HERE

Nice Diesel Inboard Pocket Cruiser for the price of a CD-22!!!

So who needs a Ranger Tug?

That's a very cool boat.
Would be quite rolly with that underbody (just to create some negativity in my own mind....)

engine uses a mere 1.5 quarts per hour at cruising speed

At $4.50/gallon, that's about $1.70/hr, albeit at about 7-9 mph (?)

= about $0.21/mile.

Hows that compare with a CD-22 or 25 at displacement speed?

(~6-7 mph, 6-8 mpg) ???

need to get some more precise numbers here!!!

Damn, thankfully I'm a bit older and not as free with my money - otherwise that would be a great boat to purchase in SE Alaska and cruise back to the PNW and resell.

We plan on taking our CD22 up to SE Alaska in 2015 & 2016 - might be cheaper to buy and resell this one.

But I need to act like a grownup now...no more boats...

At displacement speed, we burn about a gallon per hour at 1800 RPM, usually seeing 6 knots (dependent on conditions). I think that diesel is more efficient. But, I can run it up to 20 knots, if I want. (CD-25)

Neat boat, though.

Jim- Thanks! I wasn't sure about the displacement consumption on the 22 and 25, but remember the general neighborhood the figures typically come in at, so it looks we have roughly a gallon and hour of gas vs. a quart and a half of diesel, about $1.70 vs. $4.30, depending on prices, exact mileage, etc. Maybe slow is the way to go, though the trawler has no other option, like a C-Dory.

Hi, everyone. I am a C-Dory fan, forum lurker, and very proud Vashon trawler (troller) owner. It is rather rare to find one for sale so this post caught my attention. I just wanted to share some information!

The Vashon is full-displacement and typical cruise is 5.5 to 6 knots (7 knots when currents/winds are in my favor). I have a Volvo 29HP with a 16x8 prop and only burn 1/2 gallon to 3/4 gallon per hour--she is extremely economical. Draft is around 3'3" and I can attest that she handle rough water extremely well (I had my Vashon, Sherpa, in 4' to 6' seas off Tampa--not a fun experience but I was very please with her handling.

There were only 50 or so Vashons built according to the original builder. Half were made for commercial salmon fishing--these had fish holds in the rear (where my engine compartment is located and a smaller cockpit). They are generally very well-used from experience. Much time/money was spent on mine to bring her back to like-new appearance.

They are great vessels, sea-worthy, and receive a lot of looks--particularly in Florida waters.

vashon_trawler,

Thanks for your input. That is one cool looking boat. AND I like the economy and room. I saw one a couple years back, but no one around to ask, so thought it was a home built, one of a kind. Good to know more of the story.

Vashon-trawler,

Beautiful boat. There is one at Copper Harbor, Michigan (northern most point in MI) on Lake Superior. It is owned by a retired DNR commercial fishing inspector who I believe is a decendent of a commercial lake trout fishing family; it's not quite as pretty as yours but still gets around just fine.

My 22 Cruiser w/ Suzuki 90A burns 1/2 gallon an hour at a little over 5 mph, (1500 RPM) they have really gotten the fuel injection dialed in on the newer motors.
