Ugliest boat afloat ?

Last time I saw that steel trawler at Skyline, they'd had to "put a bag over it" (there was some whacky full boat cover).

Which boat is "Constant"? Is that the black-hulled trawler? My wife has even remarked how beautiful that one is. I just checked, and the "Radiant Star" is still for sale - that's certainly attractive though the layout is...challenged.

And sometimes you can "right click" on the little box with the red x and select, "show picture".

The Bruce Roberts designs were home-built and many were made from ferro-cement. They were labor intensive and many became uncompleted yard "uglies" or were hidden in barns for years to come, causing financial and domesticate troubles for many.

I remember reading that as a result of the problems that they caused, Bruce Roberts became almost hermit-like and lived a very low profile for years. I don't have facts to verify this, however.

CenterIsland: Indeed, Constant is the Black hulled trawler moored at the end of its float. As beautiful a boat as I've seen. Radiant star, A Cape Horn veteran, has nice lines, but has the disadvantage of an aging wooden hull. The owners did a major refit a few years back and it's hull looks like it could use another. Whenever I start dreaming about a larger boat I remind myself of the inverse relationship between boat size and frequency of use. Remember when the fair "Wright of Passage" was moored at Skyline? I guess you don't just go take an 85' trawler out for a day cruise! Most of those big yachts are actively for sale at any given time. As beautiful as Constant is, she is always moored when we pass by on our way to the Islands. I think we C-Brats are very lucky with what we have. Later, Mike.

I wasn't at Skyline then, but I work with the fellow who had that boat built. At the time he had a wife who was not well (she since passed, and he remarried). He told me a year ago "I was really never into boating…I enjoyed building the boat a hell of a lot more than owning her."
 
We have a Reinell 26 here at Bar Harbor (Ketchikan) now. Not even close! I'll send a picture of it and a boat that truly has not been altered in 4 years here. Wait and see. I'd almost put my 22 classic in the running that I just bought to hand troll out of, but its in the shop and WILL be Bristol by mid summer! Bruce, the Whojigger

He is right about some ugly boats in Alaska, anything that still floats is considered a boat by some.

Sorry to raise up this "ugly topic" again, but I found a contestant right here on Shasta Lake (with Oregon registration numbers) a month or so ago.

Unfortunately, or maybe so, I wasn't able to get off onto the dock and get a few photos of the stern and interior of the boat, but the theme is so unique if must pervade thoughout the boat.

What do you think?

Is anyone on the site old enough to remember Gordon Jenkins"s "Seven Dreams" and the "Pink Houseboat"? Two old people sitting in those chairs cruising at 5 knots to their wedding by the Angels. Time passes quickly. The best looking boat on Lake Shasta. Zelpha
 
Those chairs are from an old Subaru. They were in the back of the truck bed. Well before we worried about roll over safety. I have been over many a dusty rough road in high school in a set of those damm things.
 
Rumor has it by putting the seats in back they could import it as a car and not a truck - reducing the import tax from 28% to 3%.
(hey - what does that have to do with boats?).

2. As shown in the picture above, the seats work well in the uglification of any boat.
Makes sense to me. :roll:
 
We first saw this boat in 2003 anchored in Winter Cove. With it's deteriorating cement hull, I had no idea it would still be afloat in 2007 when some Brats anchored there last year. The transom has re-bar showing!
