Two Big Moose

MOOSE

With moose hunting season beginning today, it seems appropriate to post this picture of the two biggest moose in northwestern Ontario. LOL! The painting is on the side of a gas station in Dorion, up the Lake Superior shore from Thunder Bay.

Even before we bought our C-Dory, we were told what a magnet they were for making new friends. And we have found this to be true, perhaps partly because of our moose rack but mostly, I think, because of its seaworthiness and practicality in an area where people know about such things.

We don’t trailer a lot, but it is always a joy. Crossing the international bridge into Ontario we have had drivers in the opposing lane lean out there window and yell, “What a great boat!” And one knows they are about to have an easy time with the border agents when the first question is, “What kind of boat is that?” We’ve been stared at, honked at, and given the thumbs up everywhere we go. In any given parking lot there is always someone who will make a beeline for us. Even in marinas where there are a lot fancier and better equipped boats to choose from, people want to know about the MOOSE. Making new friends with our C-Dory has been a somewhat unexpected but very pleasant benefit of ownership.
