TV on board

I recently replaced the 10+ year old TV on the boat with a new 24" LCD from Costco which was on sale for under two hundred bucks. I used to get 4 UHF channels on the old TV but they quit coming in some time back. I was pleasantly surprised to see that with a $19 flat antenna from Home D I am able to get 15 channels on the new TV. They are all identified as HD channels and they come in perfectly clear with the antenna hidden above a shelf. Amazing. And the signal does not go away regardless of which direction I'm cruising.

I took my Apple TV device to the boat trying to stream movies from my phone but found that they must be in cahoots with AT&T because the streaming movies would not go thru when mirroring the iPhone. However, in Googling a solution I discovered there is a Lightning to HDMI adapter that sends the phome or iPad screen to the TV. The local Radio Shack had one. Genuine Apple so it cost fifty bucks but it works. Even has an extra port to charge the phone while watching. So now I can stream movies with my unlimited data and also stream my DirectTV while waiting for the stupid crabs to crawl into the pots.

It's good.

Mike,

Sounds you've assembled a slick new system, beats the 17" laptop we use on our boat. Remember, the stupid crabs will find your pots in short order, the smart ones may require a bit more movie viewing on your part.

Here is a phone pic of the tv with the phone hooked to it. We are watching a movie and don't have time to do a better job of showing how it is mounted. Sorry but it is a really good movie. Plus I cannot believe I figured out how to post this pic from the phone on the boat

There are a couple more pics at the end of my album. One shows the tv swung out over the aisle.

We have Tivo and transfer recorded programs to a large android tablet. We can also transfer DVD movies in a similar fashion. It does require some advance planning and may not work for longer trips.

Haha, thanks!

By "local Radio Shack" do you mean the one at Premarq Plaza in Warrenton? With the demise of the RS network, I do not know what to call that operation. Very good folks.

Yep. They still have the Radio Shack sign up and it still looks like RS inside. I was surprised to see the web site listing products and stores still because I thought RS was history.

You are right - very nice and helpful folks.

Although a number of the Radio Shacks went out of business--it seemed like all of them in Orange County/LA county--but in Pensacola, we still have several, which are still called "Radio Shack"--and have the same products.

My understanding is that in Feb 2015 Chapter 11 was evoked. Sprint and Standard General affiliate General Wireless maintained the maintenance of somewhere from 1400 to 1700 stores. The stores I have been in seemed fairly well stocked but with more emphasis on the cell phones.

Funny, I never thought of a TV on a C-Dory, but then I don't sit anywhere and wait for the crabs. Nice job Mike.

Our Radio Shack here in Sequim is still open, with the RS sign; something about being an independent owned store, not leased.
