Tropical Storm Hermine

With several comments to pull it out and put it on the trailer for the storm, and knowing it's probably too late now, just curious why you chose to leave it in the water?

Lol, because I'm the one here and monitoring the situation locally. I've been tracking this storm since last Wednesday. It never materialized into a significant enough of a threat for me to pull it out.

AND I've been talking to the locals since last Friday. None of the guys at my marina pulled their boats out. Im the only one who moved my boat from my marina slip to my bay mooring (which is in fact a helix type and NOT a mushroom anchor). My parents next door neighbor (whose boats are in the video) never even batted an eye at the storm. And his boats are VERY high end and exclusive.

SO...I have been more than prudent IMHO.

Yes, agreed for whatever my opinion counts, indeed prudent you are & have been through out the course of this storm.

Glad your boat did well with no damage. If a storm is suggested, then all canvas should be removed. One problem with storms, is that they can intensify and be unpredictable.....no natter what "locals say". In bad storms not even helical moorings are safe. It depends on the substrate, the entire mooring system, and the boat.

Cleats--they should all be thru bolted. I know of at least one Venture 26 where the spring line cleats by the driver and navigator windows, are only screwed in. So check to see. Thru bolted need to have at least fewer washers. In my cruising boats, I put a 3/8 to 1/2 " aluminum plate under the entire foredeck tying together the windlass, cleats and the anchor roller. I have seen thru bolted cleats pull out.

Chafing gear? What did you use Jaaon? I like firehose, clear plastic can get heated and brittle. One issue is damage to the gel coat, if you don't put SS rubbing strakes or chocks where the lines cross the bow. Also danger of chafing on anchor roller sides.

That's what I forgot Bob! I didnt add any chafing protection. Im moving the boat back to my marina tmmrow and will inspect it.....and always use a chafe guard in the future.

Banshee is a cool looking boat, is that wood?

Yeah, Banshee is pretty sick! Im not sure if she's wood or not. Very nice looking downeast hull with a straight inboard. His other boat is amazing too. Im not even sure what make it is but it's very rare .
