Travels with Kerri On and crew

Hi George,

You had your Yami serviced. Are you going to 'fog' it and put it to bed for the winter, or keep it going through winter?
I'm thinking of running over to the shop in Dec and getting the Yami's serviced and then going back into my marina berth for winter. Thinking I might get the odd good day in from time to time through the winter. Not sure about the engines when the temp drops to minus though. Any thoughts?

Martin.

Hi George,

Good to see you looking ahead to more cruising. Great to be going that way. On your trip across Washington, don't bypass Lake Chelan. It is a very different boating experience. I have yet to get SleepyC on that lake but have been there on several other boats and it is worth the time.

Arrow Lakes sound pretty cool too. I have only been on them in a canoe, in the fall, but that is just the carrot for a real trip ....... sometime.

Lots of neat places on your list. To paraphrase, "Oh God my boat is so small, and your world is so big."

Congrats on the Grand kids.

Hi Martin. We used Stabil for the fuel but not fogged. We'll be out over the fall till xmas. Our mechanic figures if we're using the boat several times in a few months we'll be fine. Hi Harvey lake Chelan is on the list. Thanks for the info. George

we finally did the camperback. I knew we would do it eventually, so had the bimini made a couple years ago with expansion in mind. We had a local guy do the work on both bimini and enclosure. We were very firm about water resistance from the sky, and while underway with spray etc. many camperbacks I see seem designed to funnel water in not out. So overlapping seams, lots of front to back overlap on zippers and canvas to the outside of the gunwale. The back panel attaches to our splashwell table on the back edge. We left the rear panel of the sides all fabric for privacy and the back panel on port has an inside snap on cover. The back panel is two part so we can roll up to cook on the splashwell table with the panel stowed We will put up a shower curtain for privacy on the potty to snaps on port side installed on the frame. The cover makes a big difference in heat retention we notice already. After looking at a lot of c brats canvas, we came up with this one. Thank you all for your ideas! We can add windows in the rear panels of course if we want, but there is lots of light now and good visibility out. The side panels are designed to fold aft when open and snap to the upper frame bow instead of being rolled up. We opted not to do the zip open type top at the front as we find 80 % of our time is on the hook and we kept the full door available by not rolling the panel up to stow. We can add this later if needed but so far in the past we never needed the panel to open. Overall the desire was to avoid a fishbowl type look of all window, to keep our "duck blind" type of cruising intact. we find a lot of critters come near the boat, geese, herons etc while we are anchored and hopefully we"ll be able to be in the cockpit and still watch them without scaring them away George

I just realized you two have lived on that boat this long without camper canvas! Wow. It looks great and I can guarantee that you are going to LOVE IT!! It will practically double your living space and keep you much warmer.

We just have our bimini up for our current trip on the St. John's River in Florida...keeping warm is not an issue...and its been great to have the extra light and view that our camper canvas blocks. But we NEEDED our camper canvas this summer in Alaska.

Great job!

Hi good to hear from you. Yes for those times I'm in the doghouse it will be nice to be able to sleep under canvas instead of in the dinghy! Naw not really Carolyn is pretty easy to live with. The extra space will be pretty amazing It came out nice. Our canvas guy is careful and exacting which is nice. Enjoy Dessert there. See you down the road. Carolyn and George

Hi George,

Looks nice. I do like the color and it looks like you have it well planned for effective functionality.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks Martin. I'm pleased with how it came out. I have a PM in to Tyboo and Da Nag to catalogue it in the c brat forum. Hopefully soon. George :thup

Carolyn and I are taking a bit of a sun break. We're in Kona Hawaii till early March. We're planning out this years cruising ideas. Which way do we go? We are both house less now so a lotta options. No ties but family. Sundowners and snorkelling and warmth are great! We met cruising friends (GB 32) in Washington state who have a home here (wow what a place!) and are joining them for a Hawaii'n canoe club paddle in the morning. We're at the Big Island Retreat and it is fabulous. Right across Ali'i from the great snorkeling park of Kahalu'u We were down at the Keahou resort this morning where the canoes are kept and spotted a C Dory 22 angler named Research. The whales are here and we are too. Carolyn and George

Find some warmth in the cold winter months and it changes your perspective! Have fun making plans... sitting on a warm beach with your toes in the sand isn't always the best way to do your planning - you keeping coming up with: "Yeah, let's just keep doing this." 8)

Best wishes,
Jim

We are enjoying a slow cruise thru BC's Gulf Islands. Just at Ganges on Saltspring Island. We've had a few days of rain and cool temps. The camperback is proving to be just what we designed and asked for. We'll be here for a few days then move on, planning to be in Roche Harbour about the 12th. FH after that. See you then. We are traveling at 2200 rpm and 6-7 knots. Seeing about 5-6 mpg. Lots of time to spot critters. George

Aloha, George and Carolyn... I was wondering if you would return from Hawaii. 8)

Have fun in the Gulf Islands - we'll probably see you some time this summer.

Best wishes,
Jim

Glad to hear you and Carolyn are back safe and sound in the Pacific Northwest George!

I am sure you both suffered greatly braving the long, dark, damp, and dreary winter in Hawaii. Must have been rough.

Hope we catch you at Friday Harbor which is coming up quick. Stay safe.

Take care,
Dan and Tanya on C-Renity

Hi George and Carolyn,

Sounds like you are enjoying cruising again. Looking forward to seeing you at FH. Will keep an eye out.

Spent 3 days in Ganges, nice town great energy. Poured and blew hard yesterday. Up to 30 knots Stayed at Kanaka docks. $1.00 ft and $5 for power. Cafe at the top of the ramp. Nice. Carolyn and I had dinner at the Salt Spring Inn to celebrate our 3 rd anniversary. Amazing, what a gal. Small boat, big adventure.
Got in to Otter Bay this morning in between blows. Lots of boats at Ganges staying put. Otter Bay on North Pender Island is a very nice small marina. Not been in before. Very new and clean showers and laundry. A bit more $ at $1.45 ft and power $5 but great grounds, docks and facilities including 2 pools, one is open now at 81F. . They come down to grab a line when you call on vhf for a spot. Sun is finally out but strong wind warnings are still up. Working our way to FH a week away. See you there.
George and Carolyn

Hi George & Carolyn

We'er not far from you at the Sucia Island State Park. Sure has been blowing & rainy here too, but otherwise beautiful. The sun is out now & we've been walking the trails. Sitting here now on the beach among the drift wood writing this. Our three days here are up tomorrow, so will probably head to Roche Harbor then on to Friday Harbor sometime Wednesday. Will see you there if not before.

Jay & JoLee

Gee, this is making me wish I were there, both for the boating and (especially) for meeting the gang at the king-of-all-get-togethers at Friday Harbor. Not without second thoughts, I decided to wait to head northwest until the dryer/sunnier weather sets in, but these posts sure are psyching me up! I hope I'm still able to run into and/or cruise in company with some C-Brats. Thinking about Pender Harbour gathering.

Happy cruising! And thanks for the reports :thup
