Trailering a C-25

Hi.

I am needing to move my recently purchased (and trailerless)C-25 from Washington to Portland, Oregon. I plan to cruise her down to Olympia, then trailer the 65 miles to Kelso, put her back in on the Columbia and continue on to Portland. I am just starting the process of looking for a service to haul the boat and wanted to see if anyone already has some experience with this issue.

I will probably end up buying a trailer eventually, but as I curretnly have no appropriate towing vehicle and I don't plan on moving the boat until next year sometime I'm hoping to find a reasonable solution to this one move, then face the trailer issue
next year. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Kevin

When I needed to have a boat moved, I googled the various boat shippers, and then found several expeditators. These are basically co-ordinators of private haulers. I made sure that the ones I was interested in were bonded and insured. I was able to find a hauler going empty near the route I needed the boat hauled on. The cost was $1 a mile (this was 5 years ago--figure at least 2 to 3 times now. The person I used is on the East coast, and was excellent--picked up the boat on time, called me each night with progress reports and would have either launched or blocked the boat at the end of the trip.

There might also be some-one in the group who has a truck and trailer they could loan you for a short time.

Thanks Bob,
It's appearing like you may have found an exceptional guy for your move. I'm jealeous. The more coordinators that I talk to the more stories I get about how they've stopped contracting out boat moves because of notoriously poor reliability by the haulers. Most leads I follow up appear to be out of business now. There are several services who will do the pulling, but only if I am already on a trailer. Still working on it.

Hey Kevin, You may want to re-think launching in Kelso. You may want to go down to Kalama WA. or over to Rainier OR.
I lived in Longview / Kelso for 20 some years and the boat launch washed out when Saint Helens blew her top and it has never been fixed.
Now I must admit that I have been out of there for the past 20 years or so but just up stream in Vancouver. I was in Kelso a few weeks ago and the boat ramp is still just a sand bar. Some guys will still launch their sleds there with four wheel drive.
The ramp @ Kalama is excellent !
Hope things work out for you.

Thanks Dave. That's good information. I was just going on someone's remark that Kelso was the first stop after Olympia, but I agree, Kalama is a great drop in spot. Good call.
