approximately six or so months ago, we had a discussion on a winch release system, so that the boat operator could stay aboard the boat when launching and release the winch hook by a remote controlled device.
in the sept. 2008 issue of "trailer boats" they are advertising such a system. can hold up to 10,000 lbs and has a market price of $400.00.
can be checked out at epcomarineproducts.com/snapper ...
any one having knowledge of this unit, i would enjoy hearing the good, bad and ugly.
if it works, i would be interested in having one.
thanks

I have not used this device, but a friend built one somewaht simlar for his railroad kept Riveria classic speedboat. His works very well.

My concern about this type of device would be if it were the only device holding the boat on the trailer, in a panic stop, or the pot hole incident described several days ago if it would hold up. The manufactuer describes a 10,000 lb pull. The other concern would be getting the "Snapper" at just the right position and angle to engage and disengage (boat is at a different angle as it is floating on or off the trailer as when the boat is on the trailer on the road.

I have never felt the need for such a device, even though I often single hand launch the boat, and have been doing this for over 50 years.
