Towing weight?

What's the difference in towing weight between a C 22 and a C25.
As far a towing vehicle , how much difference is there with that?
I know the I will need a bigger truck, but is the difference worth it?
 
I have been following the various threads on towing weight. My conclusions:

The 22 will tow at just about 5,000 lbs. The 25 will tow at about 7,000 lbs. I realize that is much more than the difference in dry weight, but the trailer is heavier, it holds more fuel and gear for the 25 and it all adds up.

That puts me in a different towing bracket.
So, I guess my next question would be, Is the difference between the two boats worth the trailing price?
 
There are MANY threads here discussing the towing weights of 22s and 25s. You may be able to find an exceptionally light weight 25 but mine was 8,700 pounds on the trailer, not fully loaded for cruising (quite a bit of gear in the bed of the truck).

There are also many threads here on what size truck/tow vehicle does one need for that weight. Diesel or gas? You will also get various answers, but for my money, a 3/4 ton diesel pickup is a good match for a 25.

Also for the record, the 25 is a lot more boat than a 22 with an enclosed head. Besides the discussed weight difference, there is more beam, more height, more storage, more amenities (most 25s have a 30 amp electrical system, fridge, water heater, etc). With the 25 being a ton or more heavier than the 25, the ride will also be different.

Both are great boats. Good luck with the decisions.
 
From what I understand listening to others, the C-25 tows in at about 8500 lbs! Or about 3500 lbs more than the 22. There are many of us that spend quite a bit of time on the 22's, but the 25's provide more room, along with the enclosed head. So it really comes down to personal preference. Colby Late note, looks like Jim and I were typing at the same time. :D He had a 25, so is more accurate about it then I am. I have the 22. To me the trade off of having a more fuel efficient and lighter weight boat offsets the increased room and enclosed head.
 
Some additional thoughts about the 22 vs. 25 debate:


When she is going to be aboard, the 22 vs. the 25 debate is often decided by the Admiral herself who chooses the 25 for its enclosed head and the more room it offers on the interior for personal and living comfort, providing, of course, the family finances allow it. This can extend to the tow vehicle choice, too.

More than a few would be skippers have found their wives becoming advocates of spending some more bucks on a bigger boat and tow vehicle to enhance their own comfort and enjoyment of boating.

Smart prospective C-Dory skippers can make use of this understanding to gain an ally in their purchasing efforts. :wink
