Hi, I'm new to the site. I am interested in a Tomcat and was wondering when they were first manufactured and how much they have changed over time. Any info appreciated.

The Marben built TomCat 24' was introduced in December of 1996. Read the report here http://web.archive.org/web/20030811130624/http://www.c-dory.com/24 PB report.htm

The Reynolds C-Dory built TomCat 255 was introduced in the fall of 2005. Our boat Discovery was the 5th boat built and was delivered in December of 2005. There were no real changes to the TomCat 24' over its production run from 1996 to 2004? The changes to the 255 were basically only to the interior finish. The structure remains the same from 2005 to the present. There are variations in the water tanks, head, anchor locker etc.

I guess I'm unclear. I see nothing that suggests to me that the boat shown is a C-Dory product. Nor did the advertisement say anything about C-Dory. Just curious.

Yes that is a good point and one that I had already swallowed so wasn't focused on.

For me there is circumstantial evidence/appearances that when taken together suggest strongly it is a CD. Specifically the year of manufacture, some of the interior and helm finishes/features, the font of the TomCat sticker, and it's presence in SE AK.

That said, I could be wrong and I agree it is not definitive without more info that this is a CD. Perhaps someone with some local knowledge of the rare 30' model could confirm/deny.

The Tomcat 30 / Flackfeather 30 Cat / Chilkat 30 was derived from the C-Dory line.

I'm not sure, but I think it was developed by Marben Marine (one of the C-Dory owners over the years).

Was probably separated from the rest of the C-Dory line, as it is more suitable as a commercial party boat than a private ownership type (12 feet wide by 30+ feet long on a trailer behind your pickup???)

BC Ken works for a Charter outfit in Elfin Cove that has two of them and he has written some interesting comments about their performance and features.

At last post, the molds for the Blackfeather were for sale in Anchorage, Alaska, I believe.

If interested, put "Blackfeather" in the Search feature above and see what you can find!

Agree with Joe. The last boats BlackFeather produced were 4-5 years ago--we saw the "Cruiser" which is a very nice boat in Juneau--I suspect it is still there. We have also see at least 3 of the fishing charter boats. One feature beside their adequate hull wing deck clearance (something the standard Tom Cat 255 is lacking) they will troll on an 8 to 9.9 hp high thrust set amidships . Many of the boats are outfitted with 225 Hondas.

We also saw the molds--they were in good shape--but with an almost 11 foot beam (as is proper) they are not going to be trailerable boats.

The boat for sale is one of the fishing charter layouts, and is not really a cruising boat....However it is a good buy and you could modify it for a cruiser--with some work--and a plywood dog house forward--gut the interior etc. I note that this boat seems to have sort of a "euro" transom look--not sure
