Till now, lucky with Wallas...

Or so I thought. Last time I was out, I had the Wallas running at the dock, then started the engine. Never did it that way before. Might have put me under the 11 volts Wallas wants.

Anyway, the red light at the switch went out, and I had a cloud of diesel exhaust in the cabin. I never was able to start the stove after that.

I have checked the fuse next to the battery, and the 2 amp fuse on the circuit board. The 2 amp fuse was blown. I replaced it with a good 2 amp fuse. I am getting full voltage at the circuit board from the battery wires.

Still no power up. Any ideas?

There are a couple of plugs underneath that plug into the Wallas, try pulling them off and reattaching a couple of times to make a good connection. You may have to pull off the cover if your Wallas has one, older models don’t. Our Wallas gave us some problems early on and when I pulled the stainless cover off it ran fin. Scan said it was ok to run it that way so have been doing that ever since.

So perhaps one of the plugs isn’t making a good connection. I have started my engine on the same battery that’s dedicated for the Wallas lots of times with no problem; usually a short voltage drop will not cause the Wallas to shut down. If it does shot down due to a sustained voltage drop the red light will start flashing and it will go through normal shutdown.

Give Scan Marine a call, they helped me over the phone.

My Wallas shutdown due to undervoltage recently. I charged up the battery and it still would not start. After looking through the instructions, I found there is a reset switch up under the counter near the front - I'm not near the boat to go check its placement, but there were pretty explicit instructions on using that reset switch and after I did, all worked fine. If you don't have any luck finding it, let me know and I'll take a closer look when I get back to the boat.

Dave,

I felt just like you in Friday Harbor when after all these years (we have a 2005 like you), our Wallas died while running. Come to find out that although I had the shore power plugged in, I forgot to flip the switch on at the dock. So we had a low voltage situation as well.

I tried restarting during the night and it did but would not get hot. I decided to try starting again the next day while underway with the battery recharged and it worked fine (whew). We used it a couple of weeks later for a whole weekend with no problems.

So for now, we haven't fallen into Pat's category of, "if your Wallas hasn't failed yet, it will." However, I'm crossing my fingers because eventually, it will need service. Luckily, Scanmarine is very close to my office.

Good luck in your findings.

If the Wallas doesn't go through a complete startup or shutdown it will go into lockout mode. The yellow an red led's blinking. To get it out of lockout mode do the following.

* Opening the locking:
1. Switch the power ON (lock blinking).
2. Disconnect the main power cord (blinking stops).
3. Reconnect the main power cord (the yellow LED lights up for 1-3
seconds).
4. When the yellow LED has gone out, switch the power OFF.

This is on page 7 of the pdf file.

Hope this helps.

Dave,

Since you have had all this spare time lately :wink were you able to get the Wallas working after you and Tom looked at it Sat night? Sorry I forgot to ask today.

Thanks again for the opportunity to work the boat this weekend.

Tom narrowed down for me the problem being that the pump is not working. The glow plug was hot, but apparently no fuel.

I'll give Scan Marine a call, I guess - Tom's advice. He thinks it could need one of the expensive control boards.
