Hi all,

I've been watching all your posts with great interest. The C-Dory fraternity seems like a wonderful group of people.
Please tell me if this is the right boat for me. I live right on New York Bay by the Statue of Liberty. I'm looking for a boat that my wife and I can take for day trips and overnighters on the intercoastal waterway and also out to Long Island Sound. I want a boat that doesn't burn a ton of gas and is easy to handle by myself. I'm thinking that a 22 Cruiser would be the right boat. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Craig [HarryVederci]

Hi Harry. You're right c brats are great. You can't go wrong Would be great boat for your area. Look at photos on the forum front page entitled NYC, Hudson and beyond. A cd22 just did that thru your neighborhood. The boats are easy on the eyes, easy to handle, easy to maintain , easy on fuel and you get a bunch of new friends. We're pretty much full time on a 22 in BC. Sold the house. Love it.

Welcome!

Without knowing a little more about you, it's hard to say for sure (how much luxury do you like, do you want to be able to plow through waves at any speed, etc.), although I think the boat itself would do well, and it sounds like a good plan. I guess where my mind is going is if it were a road, would you want to be in a Cadillac, a limo, a Jeep, or a VW :D The 22 is more on the Jeep/VW end of things (with all the plusses and minusses that entails).

We have two members I can think of who boat in your general area, so you might look at some of their posts, and/or send them a PM.

Member "C-Nile," has a Marinaut 21, which is somewhat analagous to a 22, and also used to have a C-Dory 16 Cruiser. He and his wife boat Long Island Sound, and he has made many posts describing the boating there with these boats.

Member "tparrent" lived in NYC for a couple of years and slipped his 22 there, so I imagine he has cruised the waters. He doesn't post as prolifically, but I bet he would be up for a PM with a question.

Again, welcome :thup

Harry Verderci? Yeah, I remember that Jackie Gleason routine.

Welcome aboard. The 22 is a great boat, and the most prevalent of all the C-Dorys produced. The good folks here can tell you how much they enjoy their boats, but only you can say if it is the right boat for you.

You found your way to this forum - that is a great start! Next step is to hit the docks and see if you can see one her person. If that doesn't work for you, it is time for a road trip!

The C-Dorys are stout, comfortable, efficient, and rather classic looking (in my opinion) - what's not to like?

Good luck with the search.

Harry,
The C-Dory 22 would be a wonderful boat in your area and also would make travel to Sandy Hook, Long Island Sound, the Hudson River and the ICW all very pleasurable for you and your wallet. You can even use the boat for a camper, if you want to trailer it from one great adventurous body of water to another, without having a own a monster truck to tow it.
I lived on Goverrnors Island for 7 years and can attest to the boating opportunity's that you would enjoys without great effort of cost. Launching at Liberty Park is a breeze and the nights you can spend at anchor in that vicinity will be memorable for everyone that has the opportunity to boat with you.
Glad you fumbled into this web site as a place of interest... You will not regret boating with the C-Brats, if you decide go in that direction. This is one of the best ad hock boating groups that exist!
