I can't stand it anymore. It's time to whine.

Here in Portland, we have an inch or so of snow, the streets are a bit slippery, and the local TV stations are going nuts about the "ARCTIC BLAST". Those folks are working harder to manufacture news than they are working to report it. This is almost as much fun as the weeks (months and years) leading up to our last election.

OK, I'm off the soapbox. I hope all of you are staying warm and dry, and staying out of the ARCTIC BLAST.

arrg, we where wandering around Maui last week trying to remember to turn on the air conditioner before leaving the condo so it wouldn't be so hot on our return, got home late last night, what a shocker...been home eight hours and am already tired of it
 
Hi Steve, after having watched the media butchering and sensationalizing the wildfires for years here in CA, I have decided that you cannot trust the media on any story. It will always be slanted and blown out of proportion.
 
I'm flying back to Seattle tonight, but I heard there is about 8 inches on the ground at our house on Mercer Island. I can't wait to get up skiing at Crystal on Saturday. Thankfully I've missed all of the media coverage, but yes, they always do blow the snow way out of proportion.
 
I wish the media would blow the snow way out of my cul-de-sac! Here in Spokane we have been dumped on to the tune of 24 inches in a little over 24 hours-set all kinds of snowfall records. Of course since it is way above normal levels the city does not have the manpower or equipment to remove it. I got stuck with my 4x4 trying to get out to the main street.
 
Sorry to hear about all that snow and cold weather everywhere but here .In Naples it's in the 80's the water temp is 68-72 way to cold .We had a cold spell the other week it was in the 50's .Anyway hope everyone has a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays
 
its 14 degrees here in Marysville this morning and all the streets are covered in ice. Its a lot like Placerville or pollock pines in winter so no big deal to us. We are taking advantage of susans employer by calling in stuck, but hey none of them know how to drive in the snow so they all stayed home any how.

About the press and bad coverage of the fires. The best laugh it got was when a L.A. station reported fires in northen california, east of bakersfield? :?:
 
It is nice and warm up here in Wasilla Alaska.......This summer I will complain about how hot it is in PWS while fishing to you guys down South.
 
14 inches of snow in Arlington Heights since Wednesday AM. Kept busy the last couple of days plowing the driveway, the 90 year old neighbor's driveway, and the road. One of our trees came down across the driveway, so I cut it into manageable log size, pushed it aside and will later yard it with the tractor to the wood pile. Each day we've been checking on our 90 year old neighbor and his wife and gone shopping for them as the only way out of our road is by 4X4. Carol's school has been closed for snow since Wed. AM and Jessica is home from college, so we are having quality "family time". Since today is Carol's birthday, it is especially nice that she has the day off due to the snow. I'm guessing she's fairly happy at this moment as she and Jessica jumped in Carol's 4X4 and drove off to do some shopping.......$$$$$.. :disgust .....I'm just staying home and getting the homefront ready for the "Arctic Freeze" that the weatherman says is to descend upon us late Saturday.
After I bring more firewood up to the house I'll head out to the shop, sit on the helm seat of "Sea Shift" and make motor sounds..... :xlol
 
Only about 3" of snow here in Fall City, but we live at the top of what has to be the steepest hill in King County. When I got to the top of it this morning, there were two cars in the ditch on the right side and four cars crunched together like an accordian on the left side. Folks were waiting for the tow truck. I turned around and went back home, fired up VPN and the Remote Desktop client and did the best I could. It is bizarre, running the MS Remote Desktop for Mac on the iMac - my iMac Windoze desktop looks better than the real one!
 
I had to shovel 8" of fresh snow off the boat so I could get into the cockpit. Thank goodness we have the engine heater plug in... I broke through the ice in the canal so we could go out to see the dolphins. Never seen them so BLUE before. :shock:

That was not easy to type with a straight face. 8) I remember snow days... used to love 'em as a kid, not so much as an adult 'cause I knew it meant I'd be shoveling the evil white crap.

No, it was a warm sunny day in the Tropical Tip; got to the low 80s here. I had to change out another bilge pump on Wild Blue; second one in just over a month. I don't get a lot of water in the bilge, but ya gots to have one. The one that crapped out was originally inside the cabin, so it's the same vintage as the original one that went out while we were in Florida in November.

Darn near sweated through my C-Dory polo while I was working on it. Yes, much like Jim (jennykatz) from Naples, you have no sympathy, huh?

Stay warm northern brothers and sisters. Our weathercasters are talking about our "Arctic Blast" coming on Sunday... supposed to drop our temps by 30º. Normally, we'd call that a "norther", but the rest of the country has that "blast" thing to talk about, so...

Picked up an overhead truck camper in Kalama, Washington last weekend and the ride home Saturday afternoon and Sunday was quite a ordeal. The interstate from Pendleton over the Blue Mountains to La Grande was closed for several hours and then when finally opened required chains for about 55 miles even with the pickups all wheel drive. Much of Idaho into Wyoming we kept it in all wheel drive and there was many wrecks along the way. Am use to a lot of bad weather conditions during the winter here in Wyoming but this is the most we've used all wheel drive in many years.

On the 55 mile drive home from work today it was through blowing and drifting snow with a high of 7 degrees above zero forecast for tomorrow. Its always a long winter here in Wyoming sure hope this ones not longer than usual.

Ya Jim, no sympathy!!

I lived in Wyoming (Casper) many years ago, and in the Black HIlls. There was a time when I looked forward to a good snowfall - time to go skiing! Fortunately, Joan taught me the error of my ways. :wink:

The weather weasels are having a field day with these conditions across the country... the only thing more exciting than severe weather is severe weather over a holiday! :roll:

We're going to get some chilly weather for a day or two early next week, but it's supposed to be 75º on Christmas Day.

Truly not a gloat, my friend; I believe in karma. I know what you're going through; you do have my sympathies.

Congrats on the new camper!

Jim, actually I do believe the no gloating part and remember in some of your past post about living and experiencing our present conditions. Know you have paid your dues and that makes the Texas coast all the more enjoyable to you and Joan.

I too used to enjoy the winters here and when we lived in the Colorado Rockies, but similar to you it was when snow skiing and other winter sports was actually fun. Having three young sons to share it with made it all the better. Now we only have this winter and next before I retire and then a good part of the winter is going to be spent like you two in warmer areas where we can still enjoy the outdoors.

It is ridiculous. I'm from Klamath Falls and we had zero snow days. In Portland, a flake blows and boom...weather news 24/7 along with cancellations galore. One ridiculous year, my kids were in school until June 25th.

One thing that does distinguish Portland weather from other serious wintery areas. The Columbia River gorge....Troutdale/Gresham... where I lived/endured 20 winters. They get some serious freezing rain and that stuff is nothing to mess with. I never experienced it until I moved here.

Yep, that's a lot of four wheel drive use. I only use four wheel drive a couple of times a year. Most years I shift into it in October and shift out of it about April. That's about it I guess.....can't wait till spring :)

Don't doubt at all your needed use of 4-wheel drive up there in the frozen north, cause due to Wyomings elevation I believe it has almost the exact climate as your local area. :wink

Jay,

I have sure have enjoyed your postings over the years. If you are ever in SC AK come on over and I will show you a couple halibut spots on the North Gulf Coast. Some spots out there are crazy. I have caught countless fish on the way DOWN to get to the bottom. While the winter is long and ruthless up here, summer is just so awesome it erases all the memories of being miserable. I know you know. There just isn't any place like it in a long shot. It is time to get serious about winter kings......Have a wonderful holiday!
