Thataway's Bob Under The Bright Lights/Blade

Most on here have learned/enjoyed the input from Bob Austin on Thataway, and his new venture of the CD25 NY boat purchase... Today, he is undergoing his 7th....seventh, angioplasty.... So... I guess for Bob this is routine...but as we all know....this type of thing is just routine for the guy leaning down, not laying down. Keep him and his wonderful wife Marie and their gathered boating friends in Pensacola in your prayers.

He has hinted at times of some health issues...and really minimizes things...especially as wide open and always going as he is. A zest for life and boats for sure.

Get back on her soon Bob.

Bob,

Being new to C-Dory life and not the most veteran of boaters, I look to your posts with great reverence. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Bob,
All of us in this cult are keeping a good thought today.

We all look forward to your input and commentary on a daily basis, so don't stay down long.

Thanks guys,
I really appreciate your thoughts and prayers (lets especially pray I don't have to have another bypass!--its been 18 years since the first). As Pat says, I have a wonderful extended family who has sailed with me for over 45 years here in Pensacola (we all came from Long Beach CA)--how great it is to bring all of your close friends in retirement!

I got in a couple of hours of light work on the boat this AM--and ordered the rest of the wiring, so next week I can install the Windlass, Radar and a few goodies. With some luck, a week from today, Frequent Sea and Bob will both be ready to hit the road to the PNW!

Bob-

Good Luck with the personal plumbing fix!

You have a great attitude towards all of life and are a real sailor from Day One!

I'm looking forward to meeting you and Marie in person sometime soon!

Joe. :D

Bob,
All the best to you on your plumbing upgrades. We sending good vibes your way. Just be sure to let them know the you want the double stainless clamps and no sikkaflex white stuff on any of the junctions.
Hope to see you up here soon.
Ron

Hi Bob,

Glad to hear you are still keeping on! We will pray for you from our small church down in the valley. The village is called Springvale. I think our prayers go stright up just because they can't go any other direction. We know they are heard from any direction, but we like to think we are special.

I always enjoy your posts-- you know a lot of s--- and I appriciate your sharing your knowledge with us.

Bob- You always answer questions, be they simple or complicated, with the same thoughtfullness, thoroughness, and respect. Know that you are greatly admired, and in our thoughts and prayers.

Unfortunately I did not get the answers I was looking for. The lesions cannot not be corrected by another angioplasty, without causing a heart attack. Without going into details, the only option is another bypass--with a markedly increased risk from the first one 18 years ago, as well as a significant risk that the surgeon can not successfully preform the bypass.

This is one we have to ponder--but in any case, the trip to Alaska is off--as is travel to any other remote areas.

Again thanks for the good thoughts from all.

Bob Austin

Bob,

You have always taken the time to give me excellent advice and council as we begin our transition to a trailerable cruising boat. Best wishes for your complete immediate recovery.

Dr. Austin

My very best thoughts for an outstanding man!! If you end up traveling through southern Oregon this summer I would very much like to buy you lunch.

Bob, you have the thoughts and prayers from the Sea Shift crew. (I totally agree with the other comments regarding how much you've contributed to our C-Dory community). Wishing you all the best!
