Hello all, I am more than happy to report that my wife, Jaye, and I have purchased THATAWAY from Charlie Vinroot. I'm so excited I don't know how to act.
First off, I have to say that this buying experience with Charlie and his wife Sally have been one of the most pleasant transactions I've ever been involved in. Charlie is a true gentleman and has probably forgotten more than I will ever know about boats.
This is a 40 year old dream for me; I started my boating experience by crewing a sailboat in the Bahamas during a college hiatus. Later on, fishing in Alaska and much later a ski boat with the kids where we live on the Columbia River. But I always wanted to get back to cruising. More than you wanted to know about me, but there it is.
Jaye being the good sport she is, is willing to try this out with enthusiasm. Since the boat is in VA, we plan to keep it on the east coast for awhile and take advantage of the sights on the ICW and later, the Gulf. But this October, we are going to start by spending a week or two on the Chesapeake. If anyone has any recommendations or warnings, I'm all ears.
Been thinking about a Tomcat for over a year, and happy to finally be a C-Brat
 
Russ, welcome to this group of benign crazy boaters. Your boat has a great history, first with Dr Bob and Marie, and then with Charlie. I'm sure you're going to truly enjoy the boat and the CBrats.
 
Congrats, Russ and Jaye - you have a great boat with Thataway! No doubt it will open up lots of adventures for you two. We'll look forward to hearing about them.

Russ, we spent a wonderful week on the Chesapeake in 2005 cruising with some good friends, Bill and El Fiero on Halcyon, it was a really memorable experience - we were able to borrow the CD22 Otter from Tom Callahan, to whom I hope to be able to return the favor if he ever gets out to the Upper Left Coast. Enjoy. But bring Thataway back here, you need to experience the San Juans, the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound and SE Alaska! Nothing iike our home waters here!
 
Russ, thanks for the kind words. I can also say that the sale experience from this end has been very easy and pleasant. We look forward to meeting Jaye in October and helping you get started on your trip in the Bay and the Potomac River!

I have corresponded with Russ, and know that he is gong to be a great addition to C Brats and a great home for the Tom Cat which was named "Thataway". Formally "Welcome Aboard"!
 
If you get tired of the Chesapeake side of the Delmarva peninsula come on over to the Atlantic side. Use the C&D Canal to cross to the Delaware River travel downstream to Lewes DE and Cape May NJ, use the Lewes Rehoboth Canal to cross to Indian River Bay, on a calm Day cross to the Atlantic and head down to Ocean City MD and Assawoman Bay. Plenty of spots to stop and dine on local sea food.

On the Chesapeake side at the southern end take the rivers up to the old landings Salisbury, Denton, etc. Visit Tangier Island and Smith Island, then head north to Cambridge, Oxford, St Michaels etc. Then there is the mainland side with Annapolis, etc
