Step Extension

We want all CD-22 C-brats to know...

Our use of the folding stool (see sub-album Various Ideas for photos) to extend the molded step for safe entry and exit...

...is the best idea since sliced bread!!

It really makes a difference! It really works! (And it is very cheap: about $10.)

I have one of these steps. I don't use it to augment the interior steps, because I already have a home-made two-step "companionway" that allows me to step into or out of the boat hands-free.

However, I LOVE this little folding step stool. The kids use it all the time, and the grown-ups use it often. I might buy a second one.

FYI, it's called the E-Z-Foldz step stool, and they aren't too difficult to find. I haven't found them locally under $12, but online you can get them for about $10. For $2, I'd rather just have it RIGHT NOW, being the impatient person I am. :-)

I too have one of those folding steps. But there is one small problem with them. Folded out for use, there is a little tab on the underside of the top that maintains the folded out position. If you ever fail to get it all the way out, or step wrong, that little tab will break off, then it will not maintain its' shape. I still use it, but look before you step.

It's not just for 22 owners... we use one of those steps while on land to make it easier to get up our swim step (for some reason, the factory put a 2 rung swim step ladder on ours instead of the much more functional 3 rung).

Best wishes,
Jim B.

This little Rubbermaid two-step stool has made all the difference in the world in getting into and out of my CD-22.

It's about 19 x 19 x 19, and provides a great one- two- three step up out of and back into the boat:

1-lower step on stool
2-upper step on stool
3-step onto gunnel

In effect, it cuts the second step from the molded in step on the side of the boat to the gunnel into two halves of about 9 1/2 inches each instead of a whopping second step of 19 inches. Great for older knees.

When combined with a large cooler placed next to the inside of the gunnel, it provides a 1-2-3 platform and steps for my 150 lb Great Dane to get into and out of the boat, too.

Works great as a stool for sitting on, too!

Joe.
