spray foam insulation

( In cabin photos ) Some-one sprayed cabin and said it was 0.40 thickness and equal to 2'' of blue board .. whats the name of the product and was wondering how it worked after he was done.. THANKS
 
.040 is about the thickness. that goo was a Mascoat Coatings product. It worked good, it's still working good and if I bought another boat it would be the first improvement I'd do. You could hunt down the "pain free insulation" thread or more info

I am curious -- was the Mascoat sprayed over the wiring and exposed nuts in the cabin? Does it make future mods more difficult? Also, I assume that you can't 5200 teak pieces to the coated wall for mounting stuff?

I had the wife and kid out of the boat, the remaining nuts I masked off.....dunno about the 5200, the goo bonds pretty good to the boat but I would hesitate to trust it to support any load.

Has anyone in the Lower 48 felt a need for this insulation and sprayed it in? We have not had condensation issues cruising in the Gulf and San Juan Islands. Wondering if it will be an issue when we go further north. Maybe needed more with a monohull boat?

Fred,
For the most part we masked off most of the nuts and bolts.
Would recommend the spray gun through the manufacture as recommended. Also any touch up can easily be done with a paint brush.
 
I don't think I'd spray it over the wiring. Sometime in the early 70's there was and electrical fire at Browns Ferry Nuke and they found the redundant systems to shut the nuke down were all installed in the same cable trays. This caused a scare throughout the industry and a fireproof insulation was developed and sprayed on all the wiring in every nuke in the country. Soon it was found that this added insulation caused the cables to overheat. This was a big screw up and costs billions. Anyway it may not matter in a C-Dory but it's something to think about.

That only make sense to not spray the wiring. Only spray the fiberglass. I also painted under all the cabinets keeping the moisture down. You can do two v-berts and have a little extra with 5 gallons. Good stuff!
