The flag in this photo came from the Battleship Missouri (BB 63). It was on the ship when we reactivated it in 1980. It is about 16X20, a Holiday Ensign, made of wool. You may notice that it has only 48 stars. A lot of things off that ship were turned over to the Navy Historian, they didn't want this one and said I could keep it. I hope all have a nice Memorial Day, we will never forget!!

That old 48 star Holiday Flag is a beauty, and with a proud heritage as well. We need to remember those who served and gave their all.

Thanks for sharing, and thanks for your service.

Kind Regards,

Steve

Indeed, we will never forget those who gave their lives to ensure our freedom and that of others around the globe.

And may God protect the brave men and women serving today, and soon bring them safely home to their loved ones.

Very nice charlie.

Looks great! Long may she wave.

Looking up "memorial" I found many references to memory, remembrance, and those who are gone, not a single word about barbecues or furniture sales. Your beautiful flag reminds us of the real reason for the day.

Thanks for sharing: that is a beautiful flag! Nice house also!

Although it rained steadily this morning during the annual Memorial Day obserance activities in Arlington, Wa., I found it to be as well attended (or perhaps even better attended) than previous years. The observance is strictly a small town somber observance with the parade down main street consisting of the American Legion, VFW, Boy and Cub Scouts, the High School Jr. ROTC, the Arlington High School Band, an antique flatbed truck with several of our local WWII survivors, a couple of restored military vehicles and a few vets on Harleys. Following a brief raising of the flag and positioning of the flag at half staff at the memorial park on the main street, the community dispersed and recongregated at the local cemetary.
At the local cemetary, the raising of the colors, the Arlington High School Band playing the "National Anthem", "God Bless America" and "Eternal Father Strong To Save", several remembrance speeches including a couple of young men that served in the initial entry to Baghdad, and culminating in a three man rifle salute and "Taps".
Upon my return home at noon, I returned the colors posted on our flag staff on our home's front lawn from 1/2 staff to full staff.
My Memorial Day is now in keeping with our family's tradition!.

In Remembrance of Those Who Served and Paid the Ultimate Sacrifice.... :rose
