Solar or generator

Boris, I have been making upgrades to my boat for our upcoming trips. I had not decided if solar or generator or both. I am leaning towards a generator mostly for the convenience and easy of install.
I have removed my frig and am installing a Wallas furnace.
I appreciate everyone's help. This has helped immensely.

One more thought. It seems like most people have the generator mainly for hot water for showers. We removed the water heater, and as Greg pointed out, the head on a CD25 is really pretty small for showering. We heat water for showers on a Coleman one burner and add it to cold water in our Helio pressure shower (Google it), which holds about two gallons, enough for two people to shower. We shower in the cockpit, you could possibly use it in the head, but we can't. Shower problem solved, no need for a generator just for hot water for showers!

Same for use, we use a Big-Kahuna shower the same way, have the 3 gal one that will deliver about 4 showers; heat the water on the Wallace but a gas Colman would be faster.
We also pulled the refrigerator and hot water heater in favor of more space. 2 batteries in the lazarette and one in the cabin; never a shortage of juice.

Guest battery charger is more for maintance & topping off batteries. Not designed for rapid charge, or high output. Mastervolt, Victron, & Blue Seas, are designed for hi out put, plus. Fan cooled, profiles can be set. Etc. good high output ghargers take into account battery temp, as well as profile.

Hi yall from central Fl dont spin out when I tell you what I'm doing ok because I'm back pack boating. I found a 16.6 watt solar panel that requiers no voltage regulator. It just clips to the battrie terminals. I have No refrigation needs or Hot water. This single cell is the size of the forward hatch and will also rest on the swim platform. The cell is marine grade so salt is not an issue. I use the simple shower one liter plastic bottle and I shower in back sitting on my cooler. I only have to recharge one 12volt after a night of constant breeze fan and Led anchor light. So if you are a "southen solo spartan" camper this is working very well for me when I want to stay on the hook for a while. A black friend of mine in Atlanta told me a good one, "White People will go to a lot of Trouble to Have Fun" LOL

Hey jimicliff,

I like your style! My wife and I have taken many a shower using that technique. We've also taken plenty of saltwater showers/baths using Dawn detergent or Lemon Joy followed by a wipe down with baby wipes or baby oil. Just a little dab of either Dawn or Joy will do or you'll be rinsing off for a long time!

Be safe!
