OK, yesterday I pulled the Norcold - after nine years, it was pretty much toast anyway, it had stopped working at all on AC, an its appearance inside and out was a bit of an embarrassment. We will be replacing it with an ARB 50 quart freezer/refrigerator we just ordered and a good quality cooler. Still cogitating on the cooler, since the ones with thick foam in the walls are so bloody expensive, $300+. Any recommendations would be appreciated. We are getting some Decraguard from Roger Clark, and David McKibben will be working his magic making a new teak trimmed door for the space where the Norcold used to be.
The other thing I did yesterday was to remove the switches and rewire the Perko main cabin dome lights. Now all three lights are either on or off, controlled from the helm switch. I installed LEDs in all of them, but the pushbutton switches had all failed one after another and been replaced, and I just did not see any point in replacing them yet again. The switch on the light in the head still works. The switches on the lights in the vee-berth (we have two lights, one on each side) have failed, and I will probably replace those. I am thinking this time about maybe using toggle switches.
The other things that are in store, hopefully before we head for Powell in September, are to replace the PWM controller with an MPPT controller for the solar panels and installing a Victron battery monitor. One thing at a time though!
