SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Got the exterior of the boat cleaned up and applied the decals with the new names. Next step, stripping the old wiring and controls from the old motor to get ready for the new outboard.

I pulled the boat out into the driveway on Mon. evening and rinsed/scrubbed off just enough dirt so I wasn't too embarrassed by the condition. Then yesterday, a nice young guy from Seattle Mobile Marine came by and cleaned the whole thing up, buffed out any oxidation and gave it a nice wax job. As for what I did on or to my boat, I looked at my reflection in the shine when I got home.

2nd sea trial today. Got checked by the game warden again today. This time he wanted to see fishing license AND boater reg card. Says anyone under age 59 must have the card this year. I passed.

This rev of the app has Feet, Meters, and Fathoms. Also has choice of voice, or two sonar ping tones, or none. Also some detail on packets delivered. App now doesn't reinit when coming to foreground

Finally......took the winter cover off the motors and boat.

Sat in it for 15 min. getting that "good feeling" back because it is summer time and fishing time and I am still alive and....and....and..........
While the bilge was still dry i took all of the screws out that are screwed into the bottom of the hull inside. Cleaned around the holes with acetone, daubered some 4000 on the hole and replaced the screws. I know angering them out and filling with epoxy is the way but........next year. Next I took the battery terminals apart and scraped and wire brushed them. Replaced several crimp-on eyes. Re-tigtened all the terminals.
I replaced the big Racor fuel filter.
Oil chg.; filters and lower unit service done last fall. I like new fluids in the engines all winter.
Then I power washed it, hooked up the hose to the motors and fired both up. About two turns on both and away they went. Isn't electronic ignition great stuff.
Next thing is to loaded some more $4.24 gas then load up the rods and bait and head out fishing.

Just got back from a week at Lake Billy Chinook. Fishing was phenomenal. Easy limits of kokanee, and several bull trout. One was too big for the net. Boat worked great. Trolled all day every day plus running up the arms each day and only burned about 10 gallons.

Left the boat at Roger's Marine for a "fix" on the auto pilot. ?Since the AIS install the AP could not decide on which direction to go, so they are working out the zig and zag thing.

QUESTION: And I know there is considerable personal preference involved but, Is there any advantage to using True or Magnetic "N" . I need to take this to a separate thread. Will do that after I do some more research on it.

Thanks,

Harvey

Got the new King trailer this week and have been working on sealing the new canvas seams, sealing hardware on the new rack mounts, making some changes to the rack, mounting a v-lock on the transom for the Torqeedo, adding lights to the cockpit, and testing out the two-way table I built over the winter.

The leg may not be necessary but I have a little girl who likes to "load" to table sometimes.

Spin the Magna mount handles and flip it over for spashwell use.

Well thankfully haven't had to really do much to da boat since we went out on the water all is good..... I did get new vinyl boat name graphics applied on da boat. Ordered them through boat us they did a nice job at a fair price, nice thing is they have a oops guarantee so even if ya mess it up you are ok as they will replace what ya goofed up for no cost, and free shipping. Turned out nice. Don't have a camera so can't post any pic's

well lets see what we've accomplished so far in 2014:

1. new impellers on both motors, plus full tunes
2. new bearings on both axles
3. new cover for the boat
4. new battery
5. 4 brand spankin' new tires (today) on the trailer

I love getting new tires, something about new tires always makes me feel like its the best maintenance/upgrade/updating to my cars/trucks, etc.

plus a friend of a friend got me a smoking deal on the tires and didn't charge me a lick of labor this morning. double win!

only been out on Lake Sammamish so far this year but now that we are full rockin' and rolling I am looking forward to a very boaty summer!! :beer

Wed. afternoon we took the Tomcat over to Neah Bay. Thurs we went out halibut fishing and caught two "chickens" - e.g. small ones. The larger was maybe 12lbs, the smaller 9-ish. Friday we fished for salmon and it was slim pickings. We only caught 4 undersized chinook (all of which were gently returned). Sat. was hali and salmon fishing and again the pickings were slim. Mostly it was just a very nice boat ride. We added permatrims to the engines over the winter and the boat performed nicely with them. All of the mods I made worked as expected.

After checking the weather Last night and again this morning at 05 I decided that the 6 AM leave time was appropriate for a good crossing. Was not disappointed, Crossed Cattle Pass at almost a high slack, with only ripples instead of a washing machine, and then had a nice ride across the Strait of Juan.

I still believe in the early crossing is the best one.

Glad you made it back safely, Harvey. We crossed Haro Strait mid afternoon and it was also pretty smooth. The wind picked up a little just after we got home.

Took the Maggie May out for a weekend camp at a friends lodge and broke in the new motor. Absolutely love the new Suzuki 90. Runs so much better than the old Evinrude I had, though anything really would. The motor ran flawlessly for the break-in, took my time and followed the manufacturers specs.

We hooked up the batteries, and powered up the new items we had added--All LED lights, the Windlass, and the Wallas stove. The stove fired right up. The LED lights were far better than the incandescent, and the Windlass didn't work…..

I had mounted the contractor in a different position than it was shown in the photos/sketches--but about 2 minutes with the volt meter showed I had hooked up the power switch, to a terminal going out of the contactor, It took about 5 minutes to change the wires, and put all back together. Success. The windlass works.

Of course I found that the bilge pump hose from the amidships pump (8 years old) had cracked and broken--so into the area under the little step into the cabin, and put a new hose in….now the pump seems to be blowing the fuse, so tomorrow we trouble shoot that issue.

I also used the .22 rifle cleaning rod, with a series of patches. It did a great job of cleaning the sight tube on the clear plastic tube which is a sight gauge…but there was about 2" where it curved back under the aft seat and attached to the tank, where I could not get the patch for cleaning. I filled that with straight chlorox, poured in some more water after a few hours, and it appeared to clean the last few inches. Got all of the bleach and rinsed the tank...

This past weekend I got my two Renogy 100 watt solar panels back on Daydream this past weekend! Still have the Renogy supplied solar charge controller, a 30 amp PWM controller. No way to evaluate performance except voltage. Before we go to Powell I will have an MPPT controller and meters, I am thinking the Tracer 3215RN controller and the MT5 remote meter, but I am open to suggestions!

Shocked the entire water system, new fuel filter water separator... Now just waiting for our new battery switch to come and I'll install it and an oil change on the main....and we are ready. Bring on summer.

Over the last week or so, I've replaced the impellers on both motors. Removed and reinstalled the carbs on the port motor(this involves the intake manifold as well). I've removed and replaced, the float switches and bilge pumps in both hulls. New fuel/water separators.

OK, yesterday I pulled the Norcold - after nine years, it was pretty much toast anyway, it had stopped working at all on AC, an its appearance inside and out was a bit of an embarrassment. We will be replacing it with an ARB 50 quart freezer/refrigerator we just ordered and a good quality cooler. Still cogitating on the cooler, since the ones with thick foam in the walls are so bloody expensive, $300+. Any recommendations would be appreciated. We are getting some Decraguard from Roger Clark, and David McKibben will be working his magic making a new teak trimmed door for the space where the Norcold used to be.

The other thing I did yesterday was to remove the switches and rewire the Perko main cabin dome lights. Now all three lights are either on or off, controlled from the helm switch. I installed LEDs in all of them, but the pushbutton switches had all failed one after another and been replaced, and I just did not see any point in replacing them yet again. The switch on the light in the head still works. The switches on the lights in the vee-berth (we have two lights, one on each side) have failed, and I will probably replace those. I am thinking this time about maybe using toggle switches.

The other things that are in store, hopefully before we head for Powell in September, are to replace the PWM controller with an MPPT controller for the solar panels and installing a Victron battery monitor. One thing at a time though!
